Let's hear it for the dregs! Well done.

Surprised to see Shrek nominated over 9 to 5 for Best Musical. Based on the reviews, I knew it would be a toss-up between the two, but I seriously thought 9 to 5 had a slight edge. Or that they would split the vote and Title of Show might sneak in. Regardless, I've thought Billy Elliot would win ever since I saw the show in London last year.

Billy sweep, anyone? What did I tell you? Who called it?

I thought either Shrek or 9 to 5 would WIN the Tony for Scenic Design... and neither are nominated! Huh?

Again, Billy sweep?

My initial thoughts:
-Nomination for ROA's direction?! I mean, come on.

-Glad for Bologna, he was fantastic.

-Yay for Damiano!

-Sad for no Best Musical nod for 9 TO 5 and no technical nods

-Really? Channing over one of the other 9 TO 5-ers?

-Glad one of my Tony wishes came true and the entire foursome of GOD OF CARNAGE got well-deserved mentions.

-Thrilled for the HAIR love.

(More thoughts to come from me, I'm sure but overall I'm happy with the nominations.)

That's what I thought too, WannaBe. I thought they shared it equally.
I don't see anything wrong with Constantine being nominated, it's the one category where I don't feel anyone was unjustly shut out, who else was vying for that nod? James Barbour in a long-forgotten flop? Matt Cavenaugh who's doing a pretty awful job at playing Tony? Random kid from 13?
I think it makes perfect sense for Creel to be Leading and Swenson to be Featured, in this production Claude felt like the central role and Berger came in as the biggest supporting part, at least that's how it felt to me. Either way, I thought Swenson gave a Tony-worthy performance and so I hope he takes the award home with him over anyone from BILLY ELLIOT.

I am actually really glad Stockard got a nomination, I thought she and Martha Plimpton were both fantastic.

I'm wondering why the producers didn't lobby for Frank Dolce to get on the ticket as well... strange. But I'm happy for David Bologna, who I thought was fantastic. I'm happy for all of Billy's nominations in fact. I think it's all deserved.

I guess I have to see Rock of Ages now...

OK, how come Gavin is a nominated as a leading actor, and Will is nominated as a supporting actor??

Because that is what the Tony committee decided last week.

Some surprises, but most of my favorites to win were nominated. The only one I'm truly upset by is EXIT THE KING getting shut out of Best Revival. I walked out of that performance saying that is what theater should be, and it's not even nominated.

I know I was being greedy, but I really wanted all 6 of the Norman Conquest actors to get nominated. I guess 4 out of 6 isn't too bad.

Thrilled for Roger Robinson and the Mary Stuart women.

Wish [tos] had received a little more love and very surprised about 9 to 5.

Also, what was with the disrespect for The Seagull. I KNOW the play races were tight, but I think it's an insult not to snub one of the best revivals of the season.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

What happened with Irena's Vow? Apparently, the show happened.

The largest surprise is the 9-to-5 shutout, but still a pretty predictable year. Very happy for the [tos] Best Book nom, though Susan definitely deserved a nod.

I'd like to point out that with his well-deserved nomination for Speed-the-Plow, Raul Esparza ties with Boyd Gaines as being the only actor to be nominated for all four male acting awards (and he achieved in a shorter amount of time than Gaines did). Congratulations to an excellent actor!

I wonder how much longer "...Elms" will be able to last, with zero nominations, capacity last week less than 40 percent and an average ticket price of less than $50.

There were a few surprises of course, but I am not that surprised that Kristen Hangii got a nom for ROCK OF AGES.
I mean She took a bunch of songs, a dumbish book and turned what should have been a joke, into a show that is entertaining people and getting good reviews. Good for her.
And Laurents must be freakin' that the commitee saw what a lot of us saw, a poor production of a classic that should have soared.

And people who think A TALE OF TWO CITIES should have gotten any noms are whack.

I'm sorry to see Jayne Atknison shut out of Lead Actress in Play for "Blithe Spirt," but of course overjoyed to see Angela get the nod for Featured.

My thoughts:

-I didn't expect THE SEAGULL to be nominated for Best Revival. But it got nothing! IT GOT F///$(@% NOTHING!!!!!

-33 VARIATIONS? Really?

-Yay, [title of show] book nomination!

-Well, I guess I was wrong about 13 being nominated for Best Score. No Guts, No Glory.

-REALLY surprised that neither Nathan Lane or Bill Irwin got in for GODOT.

-WTF?!?! surprised that John Glover got in for GODOT instead of Goodman!!

-Jane Fonda? REALLY? Over Carla Gugino and Lily Rabe? REALLY?

-Huh. Stockard Channing. I would have thought her mixed reviews would do her in.

-WHY WOULD YOU STICK ANY OTHER OF THE FINE PLAY DIRECTORS THIS SEASON, AND NOMINATE MATTHEW WARCHUS TWICE?! WE ALL KNOW HE'S GOING TO WIN, THAT'S PLAIN OVERKILL!!

-Wow, WHITE CHRISTMAS got two nominations. Huh.

"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum
