I stand corrected about John Malkovich in the 1980's revival of 'Death Of A Salesman'. Indeed, like Dustin Hoffman', he was not even nominated, though both would go on to win Emmy's for the TV adaptation, and Hoffman did win the Drama Desk Award for Best Actor. Most shocking, though, is that the now iconic performance by Lee J. Cobb in the original Broadway production was not nominated either! But, hell, awards are often insane. After all, NO Pulitzer Prize for Best Play was awarded the year of 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?' 'The mind boggles.

"Who's Afraid" was to win the Pulitzer, but the play was too controversial to win, so no prize was awarded. After all, a play that used "Screw you", "Hump the Hostess", and had the audacity to actually reflect reality and subvert everything about marriage people thought they knew. Luckily the play has become a classic and won the Tony Award for Best Play (Uta Hagan also very deservedly won, and I wonder what the film would have been if she was allowed to reprise her role).

Back on topic, Bernadette Peters deserved the nomination over Laura Osnes or Cristin Milioti. I actually think she might have deserved the win over Audra.

I thought Matthew Morrison deserved a nomination last year for his work at Finding Neverland.

I remember a few over the years ...

Elizabeth Ashley in "Agnes of God"

Betty Buckley in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood"

Stephanie Mills in "The Wiz"

Ken Page in "Cats"

Estelle Getty in "Torch Song Trilogy"

... and two outstanding performances from flops ...

Jodi Benson in "Smile"

Dean Jones in "Into the Light" (the show was bad, but Dean was riveting)

This year I really thought Ben Whishaw would be a strong contender for Best Actor in a Play, so I was pretty surprised he wasn't even nominated.

Steven Pasquale in The Bridges of Madison County was amazing. While I'm not sure he deserved the Tony, he absolutely deserved to be recognized with a nomination!

Daniel Radcliffe deserved at least a nomination if not the win for How to Succeed though the competition was stacked with some impressive performances that year.

And Aaron Tveit most certainly deserved a trophy for Next to Normal.

As for this season, there were some snubs (Gavin Creel, Jennifer Hudson, Ben Whishaw, Saoirse Ronan, Queen Audra) but while all were incredible performances deserving of recognition, I'm not sure if I'd go as far as handing them a Tony.

I hate to beat this dead horse, but Ben Walker's was my favorite male performance this season.
