"I wish shows toured quicker. Like, why not put The Last Ship out on tour? I mean it's closed, they have a long time before Sept rolls around and they'd need to put it on tour. Why not put something together now instead of in a year or two."
There are multiple reasons why it's difficult to just throw a show on the road. Financing, for one, can be very difficult, especially for a show that does not do well in New York. Scheduling is the second issue. Most presenters are booking their seasons at least a year in advance, if not more. By this point, whether they've announced or not, it would be a safe bet that all of the major presenters, and most of the smaller ones, have their subscription series for 2015-16 booked and are already planning 2016-2017. To include anything that is not a guaranteed sell out hit outside of their regular subscription series is incredibly risky for them.
This is really just way too wishful thinking, but I can't help but wonder if there is a chance JCM does the Hedwig tour. I can't imagine he'd want to do a full tour, but getting a chance to perform it for two week-month long runs in select cities seems desirable.
Matlida A Christmas Story Bridges of Madison County Mary Poppins Oliver! A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder
Don't have dates for the shows yet.
A side note - in a recent press release touting their new logo, they mentioned that they will be launching a national tour produced by TUTS. Anyone know anything about this? Could Oliver or Poppins be that show? Haven't seen any mention of either of those touring.
From what I gather, Boston will have another anemic season (the official season announcement is scheduled for March 2). For the second year in a row, it's looking like the subscription series will only have 4 shows (plus a few season add-ons/specials). Very frustrating... my hopes for the "Matilda" tour are fading fast.
Sorry should have been clearer. TUTS does a mixture of tours and locally-produced shows. Oliver may be one of the locals. I was just wondering if it might be the start of a tour, as they did say in a press release that they will be launching a national tour. So it's likely one of those shows - but which?
The Pantages Theatre subscribers (me included) got an email today saying that they're announcing their new season on Monday the 26th at 6am (subscribers first to know by email).. 3 days away. SO EXCITED!
