BCEFA flea market 2024 collectors unite
 Sep 23 2024, 03:25:49 PM

The past few years, I've feel like I've developed a pretty good strategy for the Flea. I go early and find stuff I want to get at "rope drop." Then slowly make my way around to all the booths. I take a lot of time, I go through things, I go back to things, I ask passerbys where they got their stuff from and go back to those booths if I missed something. I have no problems waiting out a booth that's crazy and coming back later. This year, I only had a couple hours, so that kinda went out the window. For the first time ever, I didn't come away with a single Playbill or program/Tony voter book because I just didn't have the time to look through bins and I also didn't get a signed item of any kind because I didn't have the time to wait in line for show booths. I didn't really feel it in the moment. But, looking back, I do think that it was worse than previous years. Definitely felt harder to get to the front at booths.

That being said, I still came away with a great haul. My first and best find was Shucked corn holders (if anyone knows what they're from, let me know). I also came away with an item from each of the major Broadway trinket food groups: a pin (Bad CIndy spray can), button (Fat Ham Broadway), magnet (Shucked magnetic chip clip), keychain (Take Me Out baseball bat), and sticker ("New Jersey's Favorite Musical" Akimbo). Two big goals of mine were a Stereophonic opening night gift and a Mother hat. I found a Stereophonic ash/trinket tray at the Stage Managers' Union booth and got the Mother hat from 2st. Then I got a few more bits and bobbles. I got an Akimbo scarf from Broadway Crew, Pop Six Squish gum from Shubert, and, another favorite find, a Freestyle Love Supreme opening night gift puzzle, which I found at the Once Upon a Mattress booth (somebody must have worked on both shows and donated the puzzle).

Summer 2025: SHUCKED will play London's Regent's Park, and HAIRSPRAY aiming for Bway return, per Jack O'Brien

Shucked at an open-air theatre sounds AMAZING. What fantastic producing. I continue to be so impressed by Mike Bosner. I'm excited to see what he does next.

Playbill Ceases Operations for Touring Productions
 Sep 20 2024, 03:39:15 PM

Broadway SF is still using Playbills right now for Wicked. At first I thought maybe that's because it's the last show in the 23/24 season and the contract with Playbill included that whole season. But, I looked it up and it's the first show in the 24/25 season. It's not even an add-on this year, it's fully part of their subscriptions.

I would bet good money that there will be significantly more than just those three available in the Spring. Circle in the Square is also free for starters. There are also three shows from last season I'd argue are near-guaranteed to close. I think there may be a few surprises from some longer-running stuff as well. They're better equipped to w

Yep. He used to be the last last account tagged in the caption. I have a screenshot, but I'm not sure if I can upload it here.

Renée Elise Goldsberry appears to have spoiled that Lin Manuel miranda is joining the cast at some point in her Instagram caption.

Sondheim & Ives’ HERE WE ARE headed to London’s National Theatre in 2025

Great to hear this show has a future. Hopefully this means it'll be filmed. Would KILL for them to get Rachel Bay Jones back for this. She was the heart and soul of this show.

I Feel Like Disney Might Not Do Shows On Broadway Anymore
 Aug 21 2024, 03:44:52 PM

Absolutely silly to suggest that DIsney won't do more Broadway shows.

However, after Frozen, they're very concerned about diluting their market. They don't intend to have more than two animated-to-stage adaptations on Broadway at the same time and Aladdin is still doing really well. If fortunes change for Aladdin, then they'll definitely look for something to replace it. If they feel they have an ironclad product that will be an even bigger moneymaker for a sustain

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film

Same, lmao

The overbooking is the way these things tend to go. It sucks, but they don't give a **** about your time. They just want the theatre to be full. A great way to ensure that is to have more people showing up than there are seats.

Anyone know if there are test screenings for this soon?

That's the plan.

Glad I'm not the only who saw this and though "this is way too early to announce a cast like that"

Welch’s GATSBY to premiere in 2024 ART

Broadway Flash said: "The other Gatsby is not stopping this one from moving in. And that Gatsby is going to run on broadway for years, it’s selling very well."

It isn't really. Being in the million dollar club is good. But, it's a lot less good when you're in a 1700-seat theatre. They're selling a ton of tickets at TKTS and that's just not sustainable for a long run.

'CATS: The Jellicle Ball' at PAC reviews

If I remember correctly, it's not during one of his songs, it's during a competition during Bustopher Jones. That also probably makes it less memorable.

Broadway Flash said: "American Buffalo didn’t recoup?"

American Buffalo was not at all a hit. It averaged around $500k per week and was regularly under 80% capacity. That whole 2021/22 seasons was particularly rough for plays. A lot of stuff that would do a lot better if it was on broadway right now.

Bette's Turban said: "Hudson is too big for this show and would be a mistake."

Hudson is the 5th smallest commercial proscenium theatre and I'd argue it feels just as intimate as the Kerr and more intimate than the Lyceum. Honestly, I'd prefer sitting in the Hudson balcony over the Golden rear mezz any day. If it can't get into the Booth or Golden, the Hudson is the best option.

What’s next for the James Earl Jones?
 Jun 22 2024, 10:37:25 AM

I'm guessing Left on Tenth. I thought that might be the type of thing that was announced with only stars attached and then never happens. But, their website has the full cast and says that Stro is directing and Daryl Roth is producing, so I think it'll actually happen.
