Where is the cheapest price on this? Is it worth buying slightly used on Amazon? I googled, but never have bought used CDs. Opinions, pls? (I own the obcr LP, but nothing to play it on)

Suggest you try RCA Victor CD which contains both Hair recordings -- the Public Theatre (pre-Broadway) and the OBCR. It's a good deal, even new. It is 2 CDs wowrth of Hair music.

Ed, does it have all the songs? I know the recent pressing of the OBCR they have removed "3-5-0-0" and "What a Peace of Work is Man" and have added "Going Down" and "The Bed"

I'd have to double check when I get home, but as I recall, between the Public and the OBCR, every note is there. Of course, there is much duplication, but still enough difference to make the purchase worthwhile.

I don't know what CD SNAFU is talkling about. BOTH the original CD release and the recentBroadway Deluxe Collector's edition have "Three-Five-Zero-Zero" and "What a Piece of Work is Man."

The original release (RCA Victor 1150-2-RC) was the original Broadway cast album with six bonus tracks that were left off the original Lp.

The Deluxe edition uses this same master for Disc One, and Disc Two has the 1967 off-Broadway cast album. RCA discontinued this Lp after the Broadway version was issued. They later re-released it as a budget release in the late 1970s. The rest of Disc Two is filled out with bonus tracks and interviews with Galt MacDermott.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Frontrow I bought the OBCR off of I tunes recently, perhaps that is the problem. They removed those two tracks and added "The Bed" and "Going Down". If you buy the London Cast Recording you get all the tracks.

In my OBCR I have all four of those songs. Granted, I bought it maybe 10 years ago so I don't know if anything has changed with more recent re-issues.

It seems to be in stock on Amazon. If you do a quick search they have both the deluxe edition the others have mentioned on this thread, as well as the OCR which has all four songs.

I personally recommend buying a 'used' copy via Amazon.com's site. After countless orders, I've found the 'used' section not only an intelligent choice (CDs and DVDs don't degrade the more you play them) but found many CDs/DVDs were still 'sealed' from these vendors. Don't worry when ordering a 'used' copy. The money you save is worth it, plus its including the entire CD jewel-case and insert booklet. I sometimes am amazed that Amazon.com offers this 'used' section on their site.

I never understood the whole American Indian motif of that album cover.

I still don't.

I always figured it was a reference to 'White people sending Black people to fight the Yellow people to defend the land they stole from the Red people'.

Or they just wanted Dylanesque cred.
