Almost all the songs in LEs Miz are pretty sad...but really good!
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
Everything from Lez Miz "As Long As He Needs Me" from Oliver! "Why God Why?" from Miss Saigon "Back To Before" from Ragtime "Love Look Away" from Flower Drum Song "The Flesh Failures/Let The Sunshine In" from Hair "Tell Me On A Sunday" from Tell Me On A Sunday "This Nearly Was Mine" from South Pacific "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty And The Beast
And.....as far as depressing songs go, this one deserves special mention (Dollypop will back me up on this):
"Artificial Flowers" from Tenderlion
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"
I suggest "The Movie in my Mind" from Miss Saigon "Once Before I Go" from The Boy from Oz "Written in the Stars" from Aida "Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music
"Dreams of Heaven" from Three Guys Naked From The Waist Down
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

"Down In The Depths" by Cole Porter Red, Hot & Blue, 1936
Verse Manhattan--I'm up a tree, The one I've most adored Is bored With me. Manhattan, I'm awf'lly nice, Nice people dine with me, And even twice. Yet the only one in the world I'm mad about Talks of somebody else And walks out.
Refrain With a million neon rainbows burning below me And a million blazing taxis raising a roar Here I sit, above the town In my pet pailletted gown Down in the depths on the ninetieth floor. While the crowds at El Morocco punish the parquet And at Twenty-One, the couples clamor for more, I'm deserted and depressed In my regal eagle nest Down in the depths on the ninetieth floor. When the only one you wanted wants another What's the use of swank and cash in the bank galore? Why, even the janitor's wife Has a perfectly good love life And here am I Facing tomorrow Alone with my sorrow Down in the depths on the ninetieth floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every movement has a meaning--but what the hell does it mean!
Oh please, "Artificial Flowers" has to be the most depressing song ever written! Its lyric concerns an orphaned waif who freezes to death while trying to earn her keep by making artificial flowers. It has a nice melody, but it tells a really unsavory little tale!
"Sunrise, Sunset" always jerks a few tears. "Not A Day Goes By" from Merrily We Roll Along "When The Golden Boy Goes Down" "After Midnight Dies" "The Lowdown Down" "People Like Us" all from LaChiusa's "The Wild Party" "Wanting Things" and "Whoever You Are" from "Promises Promises" Tons of others.....
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
