I can't believe I'm saying this...but after reading this thread, I think you should see THE WEDDING SINGER.

I loved SWEENEY, but I think part of the reason why I loved it was because I had the show memorized before I walked into the theater. If you don't know the show at all, it might be confusing.

If your favorite show is "Avenue Q" then I agree with wonderfulwizard11, but I would put Spelling Bee, then DRS, then Drowsy

I say THE WEDDING SINGER most definitely
also you may like DROWSY CHAPERONE
and if you could get seats, I know it isnt the funniest show, but it is amazing, I'd sa THE COLOR PURPLE

but yeah, for you guys, I reccomend THE WEDDING SINGER :)

Fun shows to look into:

The Wedding Singer
Drowsy Chaperone
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Beauty and the Beast

Other fun shows to consider, but may be difficult to get tickets to:

Spamalot (I'm not sure how long in advance you need to buy tickets nowadays)
Wicked (show is always sold out and the lottery has tons of people)
The Lion King
Jersey Boys (a very hot ticket now)

Also, if you wanted to try the lotto for Spelling Bee if you choose to see that but don't buy your tickets in advance, it might be difficult to win because a lot of the people who lose the Wicked lottery (hundreds try out) try for Bee.

Sweeney is one of, if not the best show on Broadway right now. But if you're looking for the fun, light kind of comedy, it's probably not for you.

Judging by the shows you've seen and loved, I'd recommend either Spelling Bee or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Jersey Boys
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Wicked
SWEENEY TODD!
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The Wedding Singer
RENT has its' funny moments, and it is a classic. Yes, I do consider 12 years ago a classic.

I really hate threads like this, but since you're new I won't flip.

Have a nice trip!

I personally do not think the Wicked lotto seats are good for your first time viewing of the show. The seats are too close and too much is missed from those seats. If it's a return visit, they're fine. But your first time should be in seats. Go for cancellation if you really want to see the show. Much better seats.

Go see The Wedding Singer.

And the chances of winning the Wicked lotto? Are you kidding me? You shouldn't be worrying about the seats themselves, but if you can get them.

I'm leaning towards Wedding Singer, DRS, or Spellingbee

I know. It was a running joke last summer, that it took my partner and I over 30 tries to finally win lotto tix. It was our ritual to go and lose and then find something else to see. Seriously, OVER 30 ATTEMPTS.

Barret Foa of Avenue Q is in Spelling Bee now. The Bee is my favorite show.

I think you might enjoy Drowsy like everyone else said.

I feel really bad, because both times I've done the Wicked lotto, I won. And I wasn't even really interested in seeing it, it was more like a "Hahaha, let's go see WICKED" sort of thing and then we won and it was awkward because there were twelve year old girls crying...

See Spelling Bee!

i highly recommend Sweeney Todd. it's totally dark humor and very insanely good. plus it'd be wicked easy to get tickets to and everyone in it is AMAZING.

If you're going to try for Wicked again, I think you should also try to win Spelling Bee tickets. However, DRS may be easier for you to win. DRS is a wonderful show. Enjoy!!!

I'd reccommend DRS. It is hilarious, has great music, is not cheezy at all, and is easy to get tickets to.

thanx all... so much great advice on what shows are good and whats not.

I feel pretty certan we wont win the Wicked lottery. The only reason we're going to try it first is because its the one show my wife has been wanting to see for ages. So its a ritual for us... just to try and win them.

Whats annoying is, when we saw Hairspray, there were about 300 people trying the lottery, and both my wife and I won the lottery on our very first visit.

But every time we have tried for Wicked... we get nothing. One time there were even only about 30 people there... half the damn group won them, lol... except us.

But never hurts to try. right? :)

Arent the cancelation tickets regular priced? like $100? i guess we can try it... i jst dont wanna pay ful price cuz we're newlyweds and pretty broke... hence the reason we can only visit the city for 1 day.

but we'll see! :)

The cancelation tix are the regular price. The lotto is basically impossible. Little 12 year olds go home crying almost every day... it's sort of pathetic.

Wicked is going to be hard to get in, expensive, and (IMO) not worth the trouble. See Spelling Bee, the excellent Barret Foa's in it now, and the show's very fun/witty. Don't try the lotto. It's usually populated with people who lost the Wicked lotto and want to see something

cool... thanx for the tips. i wouldnt pay regular price for Wicked I dont think... we'll try the lotto like we always do, and if that doesnt work... just head over to something else.

i dont really care if we win them or not... i just try... for the wife!

i'm checking out the pages for DRS and SB right now... they seem cool.

now if only we could find a cheap hotel! ha! talk about impossible. we always stayed at the hyatt by central station, but thats like $400 a night... why is it NYC doesnt have a single decent hotel for less than $200 a night... a rip off!

we just had the biggest break! Got the Grand Hyatt Hotel through Priceline.com for $145. We have stayed there before and its a nice hotel. woo-hoo! Maybe now that we saved money, we can see more than 1 show.

See Spelling Bee! It's one of my personal favorites, and has that sort of lighthearted quirky comedy you seem to like. And Barrett Foa is fantastic in it now. :)
