I have an interest in directing, and if I could direct any non professional version of a musical, these are the ones that I think I could do a decent job of -
Wicked Rent
With Wicked I would like to restore more of the darker tone that is in the novel, whilst still maintaining the camp and humor of the Broadway version.
Rent - I think I could do a faithful reproduction of the way it currently is.
Does anyone else have a show that they would love to direct one day?

He's a faker, and you've been taken in by his con. And in doing so, you are enabling him. He is doing more damage to aspergers than papa's words ever could. -Chane/Liverpool on me having asperger syndrome.
Just musicals? I direct 2 musicals a year, so there aren't too many I WANT to that I haven't but:
BARE (Hopefully Summer '09) Millie My Favorite Year Miss Saigon Man of La Mancha Godspell
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I would love to do a stage version of the studio recording of Bright Lights Big City. I have mentally planned out every scene. I'd have to have Patrick and Sherie Rene.
Definitely URINETOWN, in a much darker tone. The satirical side of the show would still be in there, but more of a sort of "John Doyle Sweeney Todd"-esque style thing.
Cabaret. I love Urinetown, but I feel like you are pretty locked in as I've only seen it done well by basically recreating the Broadway production.
I've seen Cabaret done 20 times in 20 different ways. A lot of those were misses, but that show has so many directions you can take. Seems like a fun challenge.
If the audience could do better, they'd be up here on stage and I'd be out there watching them. - Ethel Merman
-Carrie -Godspell (I have quite the concept buried in my head) -The Wild Party (Lippa) -The Pillowman -Dog Sees God -Frankenstein the musical (recent off-broadway)
and plenty of others.
I'm directing Bare this summer in Orlando, FL. I also am directing a concert version of Carrie (fully licensed by Michael and Dean). And have directed a production of Chess, as well as plenty of other shows...I'm a BFA Directing major.
I dont have alot of intrest in directing but the one show I really want to direct is Kiss of the Spiderwoman. I have the whole show in my head and how I want it to look like and everything. I even have only in the movies choreographed.

I have a neverending list but here are the ones off the top of my head at the moment...

GREASE (doing it the correct way, with Marilu Henner's assistance -- she was in the original pre-Off-Broadway incarnation in Chicago; she was THE original Marty, first-and-foremost).
A Broadway musical adaptation of Ida Lupino's scathingly brilliant 1966 film THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS.
A Broadway musical adaptation of Jacqueline Susann's campy VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, combining both elements from the original novel and the legendary 1967 film version. Complete recreation of the film's costume and set design.
A Broadway musical adaptation of Peyton Reed's brilliant 2003 60's film homage DOWN WITH LOVE, with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman. Complete recreation of the film's costume and set design.

Always wanted to direct Into the Woods. I agree with some past posters that lots of these musicals need to show off their dark sides. I'd like to do Sweeney Todd and a very dark Wicked, as well.
For plays, I'd like to direct Beckett's Endgame, The Illusion by Tony Kushner (of course...) and Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.
"The art of Illusion is the art of love; and the art of love is the blood-red heart of the world." - Tony Kushner, "The Illusion"
hmmm... flops seem to be the shows I want to direct. lol
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
