One of my favorite shows back in the day but I didn't care for the Ann-Margret tour a few years ago. That one was poorly directed/staged and not a lot of fun. I didn't like the movie either since they got rid of most of the score. Maybe someone will stage a good revival of this if the Actors Fund Show is well received.

I saw Ann-Margret in that tour as well and was terribly disappointed. She gave the impression she'd never performed in front of an audience before, which I know wasn't true. I know she had recently hurt her wrist (she wore a splint in the show), so I figured perhaps her poor performance had something to do with that.
She went up on her lyrics several times and futilely looked to the others for help, most of whom shrugged her off. It was a train wreck.

I saw this show during its original run and loved the score. Can't wait to hear "Hard Candy Christmas" with a big all-star chorus.

Becky told me she had to go on one time (during the Broadway run) as Jewel! All the understudies were out. Musta been a hoot to see that white girl do "24 Hours of Lovin'."

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

PARADE was on Broadway less than ten years ago. Plus it's a real downer and features lots of nasty children. They would raise about 15 dollars for BCEFA if they did that show.

I think I need a towel! This news just got me all kinds of excited. I will be there come hell or high water!
"For me, THEATRE is an anticipation, an artistic rush, an emotional banquet, a jubilant appreciation, and an exit hopeful of clearer thought and better worlds."

The WHOREHOUSE score is one of the real gems of its era, full of authentic southern twang and charm and a real story-teller voice in the lyrics. Anyone else love "Doatsey Mae?" A counter-point moment in the show, in which a drabber waitress yearns to be someone else, the number brilliantly placed next to the faded glitter of the Ranch girls. It's a perfect little song. But I love the emotion in the whole score, "Girl, You're a Woman," which Dolly wouldn't knocked dead, didn't even make it into the film.
Dissenting vote: I hope it isn't Reba. Let's try someone else from C&W.
