I saw it last night and last friday. I am a HUGE fan of the show and have seen it now 8 times(5 on broadway,1 original tour, 2 non-equity). I went to this show to take my voice teachers and best friend because i had told them so much about it and wanted them to see what made me love theatre. I was thoroughly disapointed. (haha) i thought the production was "dumbed" down a lot inc. sets and dancing. I understand the reasoning for sets, and if not for seeing the show before, it would not have been a problem. The cast was good generally, although a little off sometimes. jimmy was adorable. the big problem for me was Alex Ellis as Mille. Her voice was very nasal and high pitched which was not "milliesque" at all. I felt like i was watching a grown-up Annie. During Jimmy, you can hear her sound open up, so you wonder why she doesn't do that all the time. She is the one thing that made the performance unenjoyable. otherwise, it's a good performance for what it is, but i'll stick to the original!

It's just so hard to live up to any performance of Sutton!

...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

I saw it a few months ago and I was soo disappointed when I saw it. Alex Ellis was boring and didn't bring any originality to the role. Her voice was really annoying at times and her "Gimme Gimme" was pretty weak. Adam Zelasko was all right. He had a nice voice and he was a very cute Jimmy. I really liked Mrs. Meers and the 2 asian men (I forget their names, I apologize) and I loved Kriste Belt as Muzzy. I was skeptical at first seeing a white girl play Muzzy, but I think she pulled it off =) The one thing that bothered me the most was all of the choreography was changed, all of it! The title song was boring to sit through with the new choreography. "The Speed Test" lost all of its energy because the desks weren't mobile, again the choreography was changed cuz of that, and they slowed the song down cuz Trevor couldn't sing that fast. They also left out Millie's fall at the desk, when she and Trevor are talking about Tom Sawyer and she does that fall, a great moment in the show which was left out. Also, I thought the staging was just awful. There wasn't a whole lot of movement around the stage, maybe it was just me. During "How the Other Half Lives" Millie and Dorothy were just sitting next to each other the entire song! So overall, in my opinion, not a great performance. It's still one of my fave musicals though. No one can ever play Millie as brilliantly as Sutton, but I have to say I saw both Darcie Roberts and Laura Schutter as Millie in the national tour before it closed and they were both fantastic! After that I became huge fans of both actresses.

I went to college with Adam Zelasko, he was a few years ahead of me and musical theater while I was theater. He's definitely gorgeous and I believe talented. So if anything he'll be nice eye candy, lol. Have a nice time.

I just got back from NJPAC, and well, I wasn't expecting this tour to compare favorably with the origional Broadway, or even with the first equity tour, and sure enough I was right.
A lot of the choreography, and the physical humor was pared down, notably in the "Rudolf Valentino" scene, Millie just spreads out over her desk instead of falling all over the place, in "I'm Falling in Love With Someone" Dorothy dosen't get flipped over Millie's desk, and in Forget About The Boy, the tapping was just not up to par, espeially that little solo bit that Miss Flannery does.
There were also a lot of little things, like in "The Speed Test" when Trevor says "and take a whiff if you will doubt" he dosen't pass a can under Millie's nose. I liked that cute expression Sutton did in that scene.
All in all though, TMM remains my favorite show ever, and now I know what to expect with the forthcoming high school, community, and summer stock productions.
The sets were as mention
