What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.
"Oh, btw, munchkins aren't small in the book. That happens later or something, don't remember exactly."
Yeah they are...Glinda doesn't like him because he's little, and the book describes him as only coming up to her shoulder or something. They are shorter than any other characters.
Anywho, I thought Randy Harrison was great. SO CUTE and I loved his voice. I saw Christopher Fitzgerald too and I think I preferred Randy (even though he's taller, heh)
The munchkins aren't small in the book, but since pretty much nothing else goes by the book I don't know why that would matter now. In any case I wasn't impressed by him. Christopher (Boq #1) was so endearing. You truly felt so bad for him. While I think Randy is the more atractive of the 2 he just didn''t quite pull it off. He seemed more independant. He doesn't seem to really be enamored by Glinda. He was so-so. Definatly easy on the eyes, but just not Boq.

lol i'm sorry i know this isnt the thread for this...but yes they are!!!! :) I was reading the book today, actually. Two parts:
"Well I'm from Briscoe Hall actually, he said. "But I'm a Munchkinlander originally. As you can tell." And she could, for he hardly came up to her shoulder.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glinda: "Boq, you know despite myself I think you're a little sweet. You're a little sweet and you're a little charming and you're a little maddening and you're a little habit forming!"
Boq held his breath.
"But you're LITTLE!" she concluded, "You're a MUNCHKIN, for god's sake!"
The munchkin's are small in the book, but I remember at some point Boq saying he was tall for a munchkin. He was still shorter than everyone else, but he was tall amongst his people.
Also, Galinda didn't like him because he was a munchkin, not because he was shorter. Galinda needed someone in her social class or above, not below, as munchkins are. Sorry, I know, wrong topic lol.
I'd bet Randy is great. I love the original guy's voice tho!
ok, you're right about the book ... i was really quoting what the guy above had said, and then throwing in that why should we worry about what the book says now! but i forgot the quotes, i'm an idiot
no problem at all :) Yeah it's true they changed SO SO SO MUCH from the book. I read the book a few months before I saw the show and I'm rereading it now and I'm just like...wow. It made me so happy when I started recognizing lines, like whoa they actually DID use something! Like Glinda really says, "Why, Miss Elphaba, you look beautiful!" Thought it was cute :)
Topic? Chris had a really good voice but I still like Randy's better. Randy's only there for a few weeks though, right? Chris is on leave to film something...did I hear correctly?
I saw randy this weekend and I've seen a b-word with Chris, and the only thing that bothered me with randy was his first line. "that is so unfair. You should really do something." or something like that...that line was so not believable. But then again, in the b-word Chris said it the same way and it was just as not believable. I loved Randy. very hot. I met him this weekend too :)
I think Randy is fantastic! Great voice, good line delivery and very, very easy on the eyes. :) And super nice at the stage door!
"... Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth.
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt. Still a little hard to say what's going on..." Damien Rice
randy was ok ... my view was probably unfair though b/c i had my boyfriends mom b**ching the entire time about Randy being wrong for the part which is ridiculous since she knows nothing about theatre! i didn't like him as much as Chris though I have to admit
Hey everyone i'm new here just in case if you wondering Christopher is up in Williamstown Mass performing in A Midsummer Night's Dream as Puck. I saw it this past weekend and he was great!
I have to say, I couldn't stand the guy. He looked fine, but I never got the impression he really was in love Glinda, he kind of just whined his way through the performance. And his attempt to incite a riot (with the lion) was laughable at best. But was he easy on the eyes. Voice was better than the acting. Just no stage presence whatsoever.
I saw Randy Harrison as Boq at Sunday's matinee, and I really liked his performance. It's true that a couple of his line readings fell a little flat, but he had a terrific singing voice, and he was very entertaining to watch in the ensemble scenes, particularly during Dear Old Shiz and What is This Feeling. His reactions to Elphaba and Galinda were quite amusing.
He did seem a little less cowed by Galinda then Christopher Fitzgerald's Boq, but I didn't mind that. It made for some entertaining moments, particularly his ad lib when she called him "Biq." "It's Boq. So close!"
I was not impressed with Randy at all. I really liked his voice but he just wasn't right for the part. He was too tall and good-looking, and his acting chops were nothing compared to Christopher's.
I'm late as well, but I just thought I'd share my personal OH-pinion (lol).
I saw Randy on 7/18 (yes Cheno/Norbert's last) and he has an amazing voice!! I never expected it. His acting wasn't very believable although it improved throughout the show. He is so cute. My friend is becoming obsessed with him lol. He was taller than Cheno which wasn't really a big deal but still a little strange. But with the new Glinda, Jennifer Laura Thompson, is actually taller than Idina so it's all good. Randy is also very shy but sweet at the stage door. He doesn't come out very often, though.
I saw Randy on 7/18 too. I love him in QAF,so I have high expectations for him. But Glinda and Elphaba shined throughout the show and thus he's not as gorgeous as I thought he would be.
But my boyfriend actually liked him as Boq. He said it touched him that Boq could do anything for his love and he liked the part when Boq said to Nessa that she was beautiful, that's so nice of him. When I raised he's not so shining on stage, bf said " He's a muchkin after all , what would you expect him to be?"
For me, I so love his voice, it's rich, smooth and powerful,especially when he sang "Let's dance." But when he used his eyes to seek Glinda, I kind of felt wierd, since others were quite still as backgrouds. And when he acts, I felt Boq is a little kid fell in love, who could do anything even if he actually knew Glinda didn't like him at all.
One thing funny happened when all cast was out to make bows. Since it's the last day for Elphaba's lover, best friend, and father, they were going to make bows together. But when Fiyero went to the front, he pulled Randy's hand, Randy stepped forward and quickly found that it's not his turn. He stepped back like jumpping, very embarrassed. ^^ It's so cute.
I waited at the stage door for autographs. I was with my boyfriend and his parents. It was raining and cold. I still managed to wait for one and a half hour, none of the main cast came out except for William Young. They were having a party for the three's leave. So I don't know if he's nice at stage door. But I did see some pictures showing he was with his fans in rehearsal or something. He shows his sweet and sunshine smile. Even if he really tried to avoid his fans, I think I can understand him for doing that.
Oh, forgot to say, his hair is beautiful! And he looks really cute in his three costumes(not the tinman one).
