Aww, my sister actually goes to school in the city and she was the one who introduced me to Rent (boy is she sorry now! lol) and just called her to tell her you were doing this and she is now trying to convince me that I should get myself into the city so we can go. Uh-hu. Much as I would love to I have work early the next morning! Very tempting though! Have fun those of you who are getting to go!

I actually did get to see RENT the year that it opened...except Anthony was the only OBCer that was performing that night, so I didn't get to see you Fredi
I still have my Playbill with the inserts...I was 16 when the show opened, and in high school we used to have the OBC Recording on a continual loop backstage at our shows!

wow.. with the availability of DVD's now... you'd think that no one would be bringing infants to the movies..
so inconsiderate..
yet - i see people with young children at films i KNOW are not appropriate for them... *sigh*
there's a lot to be said for innocence and naive(ness)? (okay the speller in my brain is broken..) at a certain age....
i give mad props to my mom for raising me the way she did. Granted, i got to be "shocked" by a few things in my 20's but had enough of a foundation to get by it without becoming too jaded too soon.

On a weekday morning, they have a current movie screening (usually PG and under) and the moms can bring along their young children. That way, the moms are able to see a current movie without having to worry about a babysitter, and they can see a movie with their children without worrying about distracting the rest of the audience.

Posted: 12/6/05 at 9:10pmI realized quite young that I had to do musical theater...I was about 6-ish when I saw my first Broadway show...I'm from NYC, and from then and there, I've seen as much as I possibly can. MY parents were always exteremely careful to make sure we were good little polite children, and I can specifically remember being 8 and appalled at the idea of ANYONE being rude in the theater...I just didn't get it.

moms screening - makes good sense...
also moms can make their own screening times...
like a group thing we do - once a month one of the mom's keeps all the kids while the rest go to a flick and manicure...

i do have to admit i feel guilty getting mad at babies for crying though...
i know some moms really need a break and dont have anyone else to watch the kids for them or a moms screening.
its still frustrating though..its one of those things with no easy solution :/

Last time I saw Chitty there was an annoying kid sitting behind me I've had enough experience w/ bad theatre audiences that usually I turn around and say excuse me I didn't pay $___ to hear YOU sing the songs, thank you, but I couldn't say that to a little girl, I just kept glaring at the mom, who I think tried to shush her but couldn't. Ulgh.

Interesting to read your stories about your first trips to NYC, since my first trips to NYC were with my mother to help her pick out children's theater for a local production group!
As far as kids at theater....I think soooo much depends on the show and the individual child. I know kids who at age 4 can sit through and entire production of Bach's Mass in B Minor and not move a muscle, and others who can't sit through thirty seconds of "If You're Happy and You Know It"! However, I am amazed at some of the things the kids in my school tell me they see and listen to!

it's the parents - or lack thereof....
seriously - not everyone is going to want to tolerate your kids in public - especially when they've paid (quite heavily on Bway) to have an experience...

No way would my mother consider letting me work now. School first, then acting. I can't complain considering I'm going to an incredible school that I love more than anywhere else in the world.

Ugh, my sister is now driving me crazy. Why did I call her? lol She doesn't seem to understand that no matter how tempting it is I just can't take off of work like that, especially on our busiest day!
On another note, I know what you mean about parents bringning children to age inapropriate movies. When I went to see Ghost Ship there was actually a woman in the same row as us who brought in a four year old and a six year old then left them alone through the opening scenes while she went to get them popcorn. I don't know if you have seen that movie but I can only imagine the nightmares those poor kids must have had!
