5 is my minimum age and then only shows that are geared to them... (like LK)
the truth is, i won't be bringing any of my kids to BWAY until they are 10 and up - so that we can have a real discussion about what they saw...
they love movie musicals - but they can watch them more than once and we can stop them and discuss things they don't understand... the theatre is completely different and the audience is part of the show - kids need to be at a state a maturity where their attention span is more developed and they can be a contributing audience memeber (or at the very least not a disruptive one...)
i start the younger ones with live kids shows or shows at amusement parks - they are shorter and specifically geared for kids which helps develop them for the theatre

aw, you remembered. 
--- well, i didn't get my grade back for it yet, but i think i did a grade-A job BSing it. haha. this semester needs to be over badly. i'll send you the synopsis of my script...it's like 2 pages long, so you can read it whenever you have the time...i'd love to hear feedback from you.
this might be a weird question but, lol....have you ever walked past Nederlander with your kids and pointed on the wall and said "there's your mom!" - i bet that would be like the coolest thing to them!

Sounds good! Ship the kids off to Grandma's for a weekend so you can have some alone time with him!
In regards to bringing your kids, can't the older ones appreciate something like Hairspray or Lion King?

my kids have yet to see NYC... and we plan to keep it that way for a minute longer...
they've heard the OBCR, but didn't really "get" it..
way too young when it first came out - some weren't even born.
my daughter loves the CD itself (act II has my image on it...) she thinks that's the coolest thing ever (and so do I!)

I was just wondering because I was at the Nederlander the other night talking to Antonique Smith (current Mimi) and this little girl that looked about 7 came up and asked for her autograph. Her mom said that she loves Rent, knows all the words, and Mimi is her favorite character. It was definitely...interesting.

i'm planing on bringing my niece to see the lion king over the winter...she's never been to a musical or anything on broadway. i have to admit, i'm pretty excited myself to see it. it seems very cool.
and...i still get sad with that movie. lol, i'm a whimp.

wow! sounds like a busy busy household!(I nanny for a family of 2 little boys and one who is about to make his/her debut sometime today) and it is exhausting but so much fun. things must be kept very interesting around your house!!

Aww yaay for the Lion King Fredi, any plans to take them to Beauty and the Beast, another great show, or...well Chitty's closing but maybe Mary Poppins next year?
I saw 4 shows before I was 10...Beauty, Damn Yankees, King and I, and Sound of Music. KaI and SoM I watched as movies so I really understood the stories and appreciated it. I certainly think musicals like som could be seen by children, however I was just thinking maybe R&H stuff and then I realize what you say totally applies to them, one can't really appreciate Carousel and South Pacific before reaching a certain age.

Lion King is the COOLEST!! Especially the current cast (my cast from tour...)
i thought it was a joke when it first opened - i was like - "another ice-show on broadway" *scoffs jadedly*
but - they sent me to see it when i got the gig -
ATE MUCH CROW AND ASKED FOR SECONDS!!
It's truly one of the most AMAZING pieces of theatre I've ever seen or worked on...
I can only imagine what she'll do with Pinnochio...
