Ok, I posted this on Jera's "New Disney Musical" thread but I'd like to open this topic to it's own specific discussion. Now, there are no current plans so bring POCAHONTAS to Broadway, but I think it would honestly make a wonderful stage adaption. Just think of the effects and dancing that could be put into this show.
Now, when it comes to the title role, there's no one else I can think of to do this role than Sara Ramirez. She is a phenomenal singer and actress and she suits the part incredibly well. She looks and and can sing it.
Look at the picture above and listen to her singing "Colors of the Wind" at the link posted below and tell me she's not perfect for the part.
I heard the clip. She's really very good, but to tell you the truth, I prefer Eden's better. She just sounds more like a Pocahontas. Sara's voice is very very pretty, but just not a Pocahontas type.
But I really really think that Pocahontas would be a great musical on Broadway.
Well, I don't know when this was recorded but she has a VERY powerful voice. She can really belt those high notes. I think she just took a lighter approach when she sung it. But, if you've seen SPAMALOT you'll know that she can belt those notes with power with NO PROBLEM.

I want to write music. I want to sit down right now at my piano and write a song that people will listen to and remember and do the same thing every morning...for the rest of my life. - Jonathan Larson. Tick, Tick...BOOM!
I've been a huge fan of Ramirez' long before SPAM so this is not meant in a bad way but I have to say, she'd need to trim down to play a role like Pocahontas. She's a big woman. Not a great picture you've got of her.
Sara's "Colors of the Wind" is on the "Steven Schwartz Album" which was released in the late 1990s. I prefer Judy Kuhn's version. I've never heard Eden's though.
"Why do you care what people might say? Why try to fit into their design?" (Side Show)
This is one adaptation that I actually wouldn't mind seeing at all. I agree that the effects, dancing etc in this could be phenomenal if done right and Sara Ramirez has a beautiful voice.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

Could be the fact that I saw her last night in Spamalot.... XD But I'd buy tickets to see her as Pocahontas, most definitely. Such a powerful voice!
