Re: P!nk and her daughter are doing Next to Normal

The whole nepo thing is just weird. If this production ever happens, it is happening for one and only one reason which is that Pink is in it so I think she can dictate who she wants in the cast. It’s her show. But most importantly her real life daughter would be playing her show daughter. That is priceless and not something that happens often, as far as I’m aware.

Marin and Jason being together in real life absolutely added something.

Knowing Imelda Staunton was the real life mother to her daughter in a recent west end play also made it more tolerable.

The ‘nepo’ framing assumes that other people would be more suitable to the role but missed out because of nepotism. In this specific case that is not true. If you’re not the real life daughter of Pink, you’re not as suitable.

Obviously she needs to be good enough and still have adequate singing and acting abilities but she doesn’t need to be the best because the value she is providing is that she is the real life daughter playing her show daughter.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

And I think this is utter nonsense.

No single performer should get to dictate who is in the rest of the cast.

No single performer should get to dictate who is in the rest of the cast.

You can when you’re the damn producer. Countless performers produce their projects just for this reason AND for creative control. When no one is offering you the roles you want to play, you take matters into your own hands and make things happen.

Re: P!nk and her daughter are doing Next to Normal

If this were to happen, I think there would be an unwritten, unspoken backlash in the Broadway community. I don’t think the theater voting community would like this and not want to set a precedent. Namely, a big star ingratiating themselves to the Broadway community with cloying bravado only to slip in a major revival with their kid. The show will not win anything.

Also, everyone will kiss Pinks a#* to her face while secretly resenting her.

"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal "I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

Check binau's posted comment which I quoted and replied to. Nothing in it references Pink as a producer, simply a performer, but I appreciate your informative non sequitir nonetheless.

Having seen and loved the original with Alice Ripley, this would be awful idea. This show needs an accomplished actress due to it is a demanding role. If it was going to be revived on Broadway it should be London transfer of the show IMO.

When your name is above the title, you can make all sorts of demands. Showbiz has always been like this. Pink would be a huge get, I just hope the production lives up to her talents, and is able to get a great acting performance out of her. I’d certainly rather see Pink win the Tony than Rachel Zegler.

Got better idea. Try to get Caisse Levy who starred in revival on the West End and received excellent reviews. Pink is total unknown when it comes to acting and this role is very demanding.

That same producer told me this production would be set in New Orleans and will have Dixieland arrangements.

Newsflash: Pretty much every STAR who does Broadway has right of approval of the rest of the cast. (Even the understudies).

Fascinating practice then. Is this right of refusal granted in Equity contracts? Just an established norm? Among all producers? For what level of star?

Happy to report this whole thread is rage bait. A friend works on P!nk’s team and asked her directly and there’s zero truth to her and Willow doing NEXT TO NORMAL and yes, she’s aware of this thread. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Because they're ACTUALLY going into CHICAGO. Pink is Velma and Willow is Roxy. My cousin's friend worked for Pink in the early 2000's and asked.

But seriously Brody, I actually tend to believe you on this one. This seemed far fetched. But I don't think it would have some monstrosity that some were predicting. I laugh when there's such backlash before an announcement.

Good to hear. No offense to Pink, she is talented lady. I just think like many others she is a better fit for show like Chicago.

Re: P!nk and her daughter are doing Next to Normal

P!nk is above Chicago. Next to Normal may be ambitious for her, but I’d rather see her aim big than replace whatever D-list reality star crawled their way over to Broadway after a failed fun on Dancing with the Stars.

Can you ask her about the "Total Eclipse" thing next? If it were more than just a fantasy in Steinman's head, I'd love to hear how the hell that conversation went.

Your comment pretty much guarantees the rumor is true. But even a broken clock…
