heres what i'm thinking (going with the idea that they are more easygoing with the pre-existing replacement rulings)
Charlotte D'Amboise- Chicago Harvey Fierstein- Fiddler on the Roof Brad Oscar- The Producers Megan Hilty- Wicked Ben Vereen- Wicked / or Barrett Foa- Avenue Q
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
I doubt Foa will get nominated. As much as I love him, even John Tartaglia didn't really deserve a Tony nomination for this particualr show. That season was particularly weak for men, Hugh Jackman notwithstanding. I'd say defintiely Fierstein and Oscar should be nominated. And Hilty is hilarious. I personally like her better than Chenowith.
well ljay according to the broadway.com coverage they will examine pre-existing replacements on a case by case basis and charlotte definately deserves it

Best Female Replacement -Ashley Brown (Belle in "Beauty and the Beast") -Shannon Durig (Tracy in "Hairspray")
Best Male Replacment -Harvey Feirstein (Tevye "Fidler on the Roof") [If deemed eligible] -John Pinnette (Edna in "Hairspray")
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Well I think Megan would count, even if she leaves in May. Because for the other categories, things that have closed are eligible, and the deadline for nominations is sometimes in May. *shrugs* That made more sense in my head, but still.
Ok since everyones picks so far will not be around come tony time lets just do a for instance for fun.... Say the Tony awards were tomorrow. Who would be nominated for best replacement and who would win? Updated On: 10/22/05 at 10:11 PM
*Some of the following aren't eligible, but it's just for fun *
-Ben Vereen, Wicked -Brooke Shields, Chicago -Megan Hilty, Wicked -Harvey Fierstein, Fiddler on the Roof -Charlotte d'Amboise, Sweet Charity
Hmm...this is a tough call. d'Amboise came in during the hardest times the show endured and could win for that while Shields just flat-out deserves a Tony for her excellent, brilliant performance in Wonderful Town and (although I havent seen her in it..)probably Chicago. So, its a tough call but I'd have to go with Shields.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Hunter Foster for The Producers! Hunter is awesome, and he is way overdue for a Tony and could certainly use the career boost.
Yes to Megan Hilty, yes to Ben Vereen, no to Barrett Foa -- and by the way, John Tartaglia DID deserve his nomination, and if Hugh wasn't around that year, John would have won. Barrett Foa is awful in Avenue Q.

Alfred was the only barely-shining part of an awful production, but I agree about Euan. He gave a gorgeous performance in Taboo. I could have seen it going between Euan and John.

I have seen him, from the front row of the Orchestra. He uses the Rod voice for Princeton, the Princeton voice for Rod, vice versa and vice versa. He can't get his act together up there. Aside from the fact that he cannot sing. And his puppetry skills are lacking. All he has going for him is his looks.

Guys, remember that there are no nominees in this category, only the voters will know who the candidates are. But I think if Feirstein is classified as eligible, he will win the award next year. Same thing for Charlotte D'Amboise because if someone deserves this Tony, it's her. And I do think John Tartaglia deserved his nod for Avenue Q because it sure is hard to handle those puppets on stage, act, sing, and play two characters eight shows a week.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
If Megan Hilty was ever nominated, that would be awesome since this is her first year and all and she's so sweet. The only thing about that would be, that I'd feel bad for JLT who was so great in that role as well. And Barrett Foa is a yes for me!
I'm surprised I haven't seen Shoshana's name here yet. A big yes for Megan Hilty, she's wonderful. A big ol' NO for Ben Vereen...he doesn't act in "Wicked," he hams up to the audience for applause for about 10 minutes. God no! I'd love to see Karmine Alers get a nomination for "rent" but by then she won't have been in it, or something...her hair is too long, or her big toe is smaller than her second...too many rules!!!! hehe
I think Ashley Brown will win for "Beauty and the Beast" in the Female Category, and Harvey Feirstein will win for "Fidler On the Roof" in the Male category. Someone mentioned Eileen Atkins for "Doubt," but I honestly don't see someone from a Play taking this.. Ashley and Harvey have both played to rave reviews and have seemed to liven up productions that weren't such prior to their arrivals..
