Did anybody go last night? I just called to get a reservation for Sunday and had to get standing room. Anyone else have to reserve stadning room at Feinstein's in the past? What are the chances of an upgrade to an actual table? A friend of mine says they added tables for Ms Buckley.

Saw the show last night, the place was packed, SRO. Cheyenne Jackson delivered a first-class cabaret show that was dazzling. His immense talent, charisma, grace, humor and charm were breathtaking. He worked the room like a pro and wove stories of his life with the songs he sang. Did I mention that he is incredibly handsome and when he sings you are caressed by his voice? By all means, I highly recommend the experience, even if you have to stand.
At this late date, I don't think anyone needs convincing that Cheyenne is drop-dead gorgeous. He's just one of those blessed souls who has everything -- looks, talent, personality. It seems unfair to the rest of us mere mortals that all that was vested in one individual but vested he is and will continue to be. And he's even the type who will age beautifully.
I can't for anything remember the name of the song he opened with, but other than that this was it:
Breeze Off the River (The Full Monty) What Do I Need of Love? (Millie) Radames Letter (Aida) Something About You (Altar Boyz) A Little Less Conversation (All Shook Up) The Scientist (Coldplay) A Change is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke) Encore- Way Out There Among the Navajo (Red Eye of Love)
Sorry I missed it. Would love to see him on Sunday night when he's there. But, I live in Los Angeles. Will be back in NYC at the end of April, seeing new shows.
Ugh! I need to know more about this. How does SRO work? You just hang out in the back? I've never been to this venue. Is SRO less expensive than getting a table?
I could kick myself for procrastinating until today to get a ticket. I called Feinstein's today- the reservationists take calls between 10 am and 6 pm. The woman was very nice...told me that Sunday was sold out, but that I could by a standing room ticket for $50.00. She took my credit card # to reserve my place and said that on Sunday the might be able to upgrade me to a seat with a table- and then they'd get to charge me whatever the minimum is etc. I was there for Linda Eder last year and found it very easy to run up a big tab at the table. It's a pretty small room....but my coworker who has gone 2x to see betty Buckley and is going again tonight said that they added additional tables for betty's show on Saturday night.

Cheyenne's first song was some blue-eyed soul, "Feeling Good" made most famous by Miss Nina Simone and recently recorded by Michael Buble'. IMHO, he really should have sung a song from "Xanadu" to complete the cycle; I would have loved to hear him sing "Suspended in Time" all by himself with just piano accompaniment. I have a feeling that he will be returning to Feinstein's on a regular basis, given the demand for 2 sold-out shows. The people that work there were really nice but they were cramming folks in everywhere. I can't speak for anyone else, but I found Feinstein's to be expensive, we dropped $100+ per person, but it was worth every penny. Updated On: 3/3/09 at 07:38 PM
I knew it was a soul song I was just completely blanking on the name just now, I don't know why.
I found it to be expensive too considering we didn't have much...two of us with an entree each, one of us got a single glass of wine, and one dessert that we shared came to be $100 without tip.
It was an intimate setting for a night to remember for a CJ fan like myself. Watching him perform is a joy! Wished he came out afterwards for photos or a meet/greet as it really is a small venue. And Seth was chewing his nails during the performance (WTF?). Having flown in from Florida during a NY snowstorm, I thought it was well worth it. He's a great performer who really ought to have a solo CD out soon.
RE: Cost of the show. That's the way it is -- upper-echelon cabaret is primarily for the higher income crowd. I know I don't belong in that league and going at all, let alone on a regular basis, is simply beyond my wallet. Do I like that? No, absolutely not. Do I have to live with it? Yes, unfortunately.
I have a video of Cheyenne singing "A Change Is Gonna Come" from the first NYACL benefit. It's been taken down from YouTube by the Sam Cooke estate, but PM me if you'd like it.
I was there last night, too. It was an incredible show. Cheyenne told some great and funny stories about his time since he moved to NYC.
One that I found hilarious that I'll share here was, he was talking about how he and his partner are both very tall guys. Monte (his partner) is even taller than Cheyenne. And one thing they have fun doing when they get the chance is, when they're in a crowd, they like to surround short straight men and "emasculate" them, as Cheyenne said.
He said last week he and Monte were in an elevator surrounding this short little straight businessman. So the little fella is crowded in. He looks up at Cheyenne, he looks up at Monte, and he says, "Are you guys brothers?" Cheyenne says, "No, we're actually partners." The guy says, "Oh... What kinda business you guys in?" Monte was wearing sunglasses, and he lowers them, looks down at the man and says, "Monkey business." Then they both started laughing.
The audience was laughing hysterically. I don't know if it's coming across here as funny as it was last night, but the way Cheyenne was telling it, with the voice of the short straight guy, it was hilarious.
Cheyenne has such a wonderful personality. He is so very out and open about being gay, and that just made the audience feel even closer to him. It's so rare to have an open, out, shameless, proud gay male actor who completely uncensored talks about himself as a real gay man, and not some fake persona who "happens to be gay," as so many actors put it.
The house was about 60% men (I was joking with my friends that I imagined every single one must have been gay), and 40% women.
Yes, the food is overpriced (and crappy tasting), the room is jam packed super tight, the wait staff is awful, but Cheyenne was 1000% worth it. It was the most intimate, entertaining cabaret I have ever had the joy of seeing.

Have been to Feinstein's quite a few times throughout the years, and it's never once entered my mind that it's expensive, because you gotta look at the big picture. Bottom line....it's a business. The entertainer and their musicians have to get paid. They certainly aren't going to do an hour show for $25. That would make no sense whatsoever. This is how they earn thier living.
The food has always been great, and I have yet to experience bad service at Feinstein's.
Would be the same thing if you're going out to see a Broadway show - you go to dinner before or after, and it comes out to be about the same price. Maybe, a little cheaper, actually.
GottaHaveAGimmick, Cheyenne did come out afterwards. He was a total doll and chatted with those of us who were left.
He said an album is on his "To Do" List.

Dollypop, Cheyenne will be guest starring on UGLY BETTY this Thursday, March 5 at 8 pm on ABC.
GottaHaveAGimmick, I have been asking Cheyenne when he will release a cd for some time, hopefully it will be this year. You must be the biggest Cheyennetologist in the world to fly in during a snowstorm to see his show!
PalJoey, thanks for the clarification on "Feeling Good" and the link.
Wanna Be A Foster, you captured the Monkey Business story perfectly and Cheyenne's wonderful open personality as well. I agree that the food is overpriced, but I found the staff to be very attentive and pleasant.
nealb1 and Ed_Mottershead, you're both right, looking at the bigger picture, Feinstein's is a business and well worth the price.
As I said before, I bet they book Cheyenne on a regular basis, since he was such a draw and got such great feedback, so you will probably be able to see him there soon.
Reading all these posts makes me even more excited for April to see Sutton Foster there! But I've never been to Feinstein's before, and I have a few questions:
1. Is theere any way to not spend $100 for food? I just don't know if I'll have that kind of extra money by then. But Sutton will be worth it.
2. I have the premium seating, but it's general addmission, right? Can we seat ourselves and choose which table we want, or do we have to wait to be seated? Will I be able to sit up towards the front, or are some tables reserved?
Sorry for the stupid questions, but thanks for any help!
Also, how long are these concerts, usually? An hour? And you said that he came out afterwards, you mean back on the stage? So we just stay at our tables after?
