If you're doing an audtion, don't bring anything from a Jason Robert Brown musical unless you're bringing your own accompanist. His songs are utterly beautiful, but they can be a bitch to play (much less sight read).
"You're the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!" --Family Guy
"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

There are no rules in theatre generally. If I Didn't Believe in you is fine to bring in for auditions. It's not hard to play. As far as Ballads with Range I'd stay away from Younger than Springtime. EVERYONE sings that. Instead try something like STAY from Do I hear a Waltz. It tops off at a floaty B flat, but it has some meaty G's in there (so if you're a high tenor you can do it in your sleep). It has the classic sound of Golden age Broadway (rodgers) but the deep, specific lyrics that make it VERY easy to act well (sondheim).
