Posted: 5/16/07 at 3:49pmI'll tell you what could be a problem for the show: When Laura leaves, they could have some problems. That's her face up there on the marquee. They used that same marketing campaign for The Producers and look what happened after Nathan and Matthew left.

Unlike Nathan and Matthew, LBB is far from being a celebrity. On the poster, she looks like any other generic blonde who likes to open her mouth.

This is coming from someone who is posting on a message board, which includes at this moment ads for WAL-MART, NATIONAL LAMPOON PRESENTS..., ORAL B - just to name a few.
I don't see you saying the same thing to BroadwayWorld, because they take money from business to advertise and their website.
It's called BUSINESS. Last I heard, people were in business to make MONEY.

I think people also have to realize that LB will not run on teen girl power alone. It needs to appeal to adults enough, because adults make up the majority of Broadway audiences. Even shows like Wicked have audiences mostly made of adults. And though people may be getting up at 6:00 for rush, that doesn't mean much. A show has to sell full-price tickets to run and be a sucess.
However, I don't think the Tony snub will hurt them in any way. I think the show will have a healthy run, but I don't think it will be a hit of Wicked proportions.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Nobody is forgetting that at all. I don't mind advertisement in general because it's become such a part of life and they need to get their product out there. However, you have to admit that blatant product placement is hilarious.
Hey! I hope that in the future, they'll have dancing products doing a skit during intermission of shows. Anything for business!

I say kudos. They are actually getting PAID to present a show 8 times a week. I wish more producers were more business savvy. True, it can be done more discreetly. But, it's LEGALLY BLONDE! Elle is suppose to be about commercialism. I take it no one has read the original novel which the movie was based on. Yes, it was based on a book first.

umm, i don't think the product placement that you speak of is going to balance out the money they lose. Having a few red bulls in the show and one reference to Jet Blue, really doesn't calculate to $100,000 per week. Maybe a few grand but come on. Its not like she is in a jet blue airplane sipping red bull on every commercial and every poster.

After reading your posts on this thread massofmen, I'm beginning to wonder if you actually saw the show. Now, I saw the show once. Which was enough. It was enjoyable for what it was, a big pink, fluffy musical. Just not my cup of tea. But, in that one show, I saw product placement for Vogue, Cosmo & Elle magazines, Milky Way candy bars, Puma shoes, Tiffany & Co., Apple iPods, Apple computers, Match.com, Matrix hair care, Verizon as well as one's already mentioned Red Bull, Jet Blue and UPS. And these were just the one's I catched. I'm sure there are more.
Also, the normal fee for product placement is $5,000 per time used. $5,000 times 8 shows a week is $40,000 per product a week. You do the math. The producers are sadly, raking it in.

You have to take massofmen's comments with a grain of salt. Because you are right, he probably didn't see the show.
Here's a perfect example of when he's said he saw a show, then I guess he forgot he stated that he already did -
On 7/11 he responds to LuckyDave about Dangerous Beauty up at Vassar with "
ALSO SAW THE SHOW, and completely agree with everything you said. Best of luck to the show. I think it deserves a shot in NYC'.
Then, on 8/30 he states about Dangerous Beauty on a Megan McGinnis thread "read that she was in dangerous beauty up at New york stage and film this summer. DIDN'T SEE IT THOUGH."
So, in July he had seen it, but by August he hadn't. Which was it?

I was going to stay off this thread but I have to point some things out re:massofmen. What's your deal anyway? Last week it was an endless diatribe about how "it's Orfeh's fault LBB can't act and that her fantastic reviews don't count for a thing" then I noticed a more recent thread where he/she goes on and on about the reviews in general (suddenly, they mattered) and now there's all this speculation about the in's and and out's of dollars, marketing, etc... Obviously, you're overjoyed that LBB and Borle got nods (one of whom has ALL of the tri-state area scratching their heads over) so now it's become all about the shows' imminent demise. Are you a disgruntled employee, LBB's agent/publicist, a close friend of Borles' a secret insider trying to get a message across or simply someone with an over abundance of time on his/her hands and no "real" way to vent? Why are you making this show so important? Seriously, how does LB effect your life so deeply that all you do is talk about it, (in glaring contradiction), every chance you get? It's exhausting to read. I'm honestly curious and would be happy to take it to PM.
All that being said, I think Al's right, it needed a nod and will be gone sooner than anyone anticipates.

well you guys caught me. Its me, Kristin Chenoweth. I really wanted to play Elle Woods, and no body gave me a shot cause I am too old. I hate this town.
Why do you care so much what my motives are anyway? am I that important in your life right now, that even though "you are tired of reading what I write" you still read it? So who has more time on their hands? The one who writes something because they are interested in the success and failure of shows and how it all works? Or the one who reads it without any vested interest in the first place. I tend to find the latter the one wasting time.
secondly, can't a person change her mind? sometimes on this wonderful board, posts are made and then you think to yourself, huh, thats a good point. I think thats a lot of what discussion is. We talk (hopefully maturely) then we discuss points of view, and then decisions are made based on valid points (or matters of emotion), and those decisions are called thoughts/choices. Sometimes thoughts change in life, and because of the wonderfully intelligent people on this board, my thoughts change from time to time.
and lastly, I have no vested interest in LB. I have seen the show, I paid my money (a lot of money for that tix) I didn't watch it on a bootleg, yes I saw the flesh and bone of the people up there working their tails off. But do I really have to explain myself to you? are you the judge jury and executioner of Bwyworld.com message board? no.

Fosterchild I LOVE YOU hahaha , i pointed out earlier that all they seem to is slag the show off , i also wasn't sure if she had seen it.
And Broadway Doc THANK GOD FOR YOU ,someone who talks sense wooh wooh ,
LB is raking in the money right now and im glad about that because its a fun show, its not perfect but its fun and Broadway needs shows like this.
