I have an idea for all of the people who truly hate "Wicked." When you see a thread that has something to do with the show and/or the cast, just ignore it. Don't open it, read it, and respond with such annoyance. It's a waste of your time, and it's wasting the time of other people who want to read what other fans have to say about the show. I'm not saying you can't have your opinion, just don't put so much negative energy into it. Idina's voice cracked, big deal. As did Tonya Pinkins, and the cast of "Avenue Q" didn't sound so hot either. Does it change the fact that it won the Tony? No. Does it change the fact that Idina won the Tony? Nope. Does any of this change the face that "Wicked" won both the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk award for Best Musical? Not a bit. Peace people, peace!!

okay, the bottom line is that she's an incredible talent, and there are very few people with an ability like hers. nobody is perfect. everyone, even the best in the field, are entitled to be a off once in a while. she's human. that was an incredible night for her, and one can only imagine how incredibly nervous she must have been. her performance at the tony's wasn't her best, this is true, but she won didn't she?!

people need to get off her back.

"I mean, honestly, if you were up for Best Actress at the Tony's and knew that despite the regular huge audience (which I'm sure she's used to) that you were being broadcast to millions of homes wouldn't you be just a little bit jittery?"

little late, but I believe it was hundreds of homes. not millions.

Well, you'd be wrong. The Tonys have been one of the lowest rated awards shows not to meantion lowest rated program in general on television for well over a decade. Updated On: 12/16/04 at 07:51 PM

I heard it was about 7 million or so. Maybe more, maybe less. I could be thinking of something less. Whatever it was, the ratings were as low as any moderately popular tv show.

Just to clarify - after watching the performance several times, her voice did not "crack". She went flat on the last note. Big deal. All singers have gone flat, at least once, I'm more than sure. Eden Espinosa, who is equally vocally talented goes flat, too. It's funny, everyone notices her "flat" note, but no one notices the first chorus member, who comes out under the dress, slip and fall. I spoke to this chorus member, by the way (Her name was Melissa), and she stated how overwhelming Radio City Music Hall was. She never expected the theatre to be so big, and she also stated that EVERYONE was nervous that night.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

For whatever it's worth...

I saw Idina in Wicked in SF, and was blown away. I listen to her on the OBC recording, and am blown away. However, and that's a BIG however, on every single TV appearance I've seen of her singing live, she sounds terrible -- very weak and uncontrolled.

I wonder if she just tenses up in front of a camera...or is it that the technology of the recording studio and/or the theatre's sound board are just more "friendly" to her? Hmmm....
