allofmylife, that makes no sense. For one, I wasn't criticizing Marc's work, I was criticizing the actors. And why is it "cretinous"? Because God forbid I criticize the Hairspray soundtrack, right? So you can either learn to deal with my opinion (which I will continue to post), or don't read it and shut up.
Now, back to the soundtrack...
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Oh Mr. S...with a tear in my eye and two holes in my shirt caused by two er*ct n*pples, i have just finished listening to your incredible work. Now I need a minute before I can get up out of my chair.
I have some love, if that's all right with the bitchier queens? ^_^
The orchestrations are KILLER. I particularly loved 'I Can Hear The Bells', 'Timeless To Me', and 'You Can't Stop The Beat'. I also swear each incarnation of 'Ladies Choice' gets better and better, even though you guys must have stopped working on it quite a while ago. O_o
I was kinda concerned I wouldn't enjoy John Travolta or Amanda Bynes, but they're both fine. Yes, Amanda's no Kerry Butler, but that doesn't mean she's bad by any means.
I think I get what people are yapping about when they go "OMG, Zac Efron's voice is sooooooooo computerised". But uh... guys? I think that's just his voice. :P He sounds the same in the tiny snippets he sings in 'High School Musical', and as they were happy to replace him for most of that, I'm fairly confident they wouldn't have bothered computerising just a few lines. :P He sounds great. And looks great. And I'm going to stop there befoe I get inappropriate.
Oh, I love Brittany Snow! I wish she had more to do, she's so cute in her bitchiness. :3
I especially love all three of the new songs.
Criticisms? Sure, I have a couple. Queen Latifah is a great singer, but I miss the serious WALLOP Mary Bond Davis packed.
Actually, that's all I have in the way of criticisms at this time. I'll come up with more if you like, but I just love this recording. I thiiiiink I may prefer it to the OBCR. The fuller orchestrations are wonderful, the new songs are so much fun, and on a personal level I prefer Nikki to Marissa. If that's okay. ^_^

Sir, are you directly accusing Marc Shaiman of being a liar? Because I believe you are. He's stated several times that the cast have not needed or used any computer enhancement, and I have no particular reason to not trust him. And it'd be really nice if people climbed down from their "It's all TOTALLY computer enhanced, 'cos I knooooow what that sounds liiiiiike!" high-horses. It's a tad repetitive now.
are you guys using headphones to listen or are you listening over little computer speakers. If you are listinging over laptop speakers and such I'm going to have to kill myself, so let me know
and, even though I don't need to say this, I am happy to. Zac Efron, besides being a wonderful singer, surprisingly good actor, stunning to look at and a simply sweet kid, sings with a fantastic pitch center. Whoever thinks they are "hearing" AutoTune (which, by the way, is an awfully outdated software) is simply full of you know what. He or she is entitled to their opinion, but a fact is a fact, and you are hearing it from the horse's mouth.
I'd work on any musical project Zac is doing, gladly and with total pleasure.
I am listening to it with headphones that i plug in to my comp monitor.
I dont have a stereo- so the computer is the only place I can listen to music.
"Zac is sweet as can be. He's very much just a sweet kid from California who happens to have a face that looks like it was drawn by Michelangelo, (if Michelangelo did anime)." -Adam Shankman.
"I haven't left this building since Windows 3.1!"
"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!" -E!'s "The Soup"
I listened to the recording via the speakers hooked up to my computer, and I liked what I heard. I'm expecting the actual recording by the end of the week, which I'll be able to listen to on my stereo.

Did your colleagues enjoy the cake even though your cat decided to sit on it? ~GuyfromGermany
I am the biggest Mac fan on earth, but the built in speakers on laptops really s*ck a*s. They eliminate almost all low end, I often can't even hear the bass AT ALL on many records. If I imagined people out there just using laptop speakers to listen, after projectile vomiting all over my house and pets, I would drive my car into the Pacific Ocean.
But I would have COOTIES blasting at full volume as I went under!
I may have to get a stereo- but the house I live in was built in the 50's and the walls are PAPER thin. I'm afraid the sounds of 'You Cant Stop The Beat' might drive others in my home nuts.
Is it sad that I am going to buy a widescreen tv for when the Hairspray DVD comes out- yeah a lil bit.

Same thing on my end, Shaiman. Huge Mac fan here -- MacBook Pro, video iPod, Apple TV and now my iPhone. I do have my MacBook Pro hooked-up to my home entertainment system via wireless AirPort, so my computer is also my stereo, et al.
Oops...well I am listening to it via my macbook pro speakers, sorry Marc. But still I really like it, so what does that tell you? When I get the CD and can blast it in my car I guess I'll like it 10 times better, if it really sounds THAT much worse on these admittedly crappy speakers.
And I'm with you, I think Zac Efron sounds great. It's a cool sound for the character. And whil I was wary of Travolta during "Welcome to the 60s" I really loved him in "Timeless To Me." Great job on the whole thing!
Well, if it sounds this good through my computer headphones which are just ordinary everyday ones, and they sound great, I can only imagine how amazing it's going to sound in a Dolby Digital theater, like maybe The Ziegfeld in NYC at 10 am on July 20th 2007.
Sir, are you directly accusing Marc Shaiman of being a liar?
Dude, you need to chill, and stop jumping to conclusions. Defensive much? I think so.
Never said anything about a multitude of enhancements. I'm talking only about pitch correction.
Zac Efron, besides being a wonderful singer, sings with a fantastic pitch center.
Not doubting that, Marc. He's a much better singer than people give him credit for. But, I can clearly hear instances when the notes he is hitting have been manipulated. Other than that, his vocals are among the most clear and smooth on the album. And, I am not full of you-know-what.
Not a big deal, really. Everyone does it at some point, including talented live performers like Michael Buble.
PS - I don't call it AutoTune, either. Just giving a specific name to what most recording consoles simply call 'pitch correction'.

With all due respect, I know what I'm hearing. But, it's all good. Still love your work, and the soundtrack (as I said before).
