In the Cabaret number, "Two Ladies"... I've seen it done a number of ways... is it supposed to be the emcee and two females, the emcee and one male and one female, or which?
I'm pretty certain that when I saw it on Broadway it was two females, but on my soundtrack, it most certainly isn't...

Emcee, Lulu and Bobby (in drag). I don't think they ever used two females on Broadway. Totally defeats the point.

In the 1998 revival, it was a lady and a man in drag. In other major productions and the movie, it was two ladies.

I saw one picture from the show where Lulu looked like a man in drag.... or maybe just an ugly woman?

In your CD, the blonde with pigtails is Lulu. The dark haired one is Bobby.

This picture was from when Norbert Leo Butz was the emcee..

Aww, this thread makes me miss Michael O'Donnell.

This thread reminds me of a group project I did on Cabaret last semester - "Two Ladies" became my groupmates' favorite song, so we would sing the "deedledeededee"s all the time.

When I did Cabaret I played Lulu, but the director wanted to use two LADIES instead of Bobby.
At the same time, my boyfriend was playing Bobby in another part of Ontario.

Embarassing that we pretty much played the exact same part!

The Revival:

It's Lulu and Bobby.

Bobby is in drag and sings like a girl - sort of.

The end.

The OBC (Joel Grey)

Two girls.

Period.

It's always been two women except for the Mendes production.

Two Ladies was done in the original Broadway production with the Emcee and two women, and it was done the same way in the film.

The recent Broadway revisal had the Emcee perform it with a man and a woman.

Speaking of Cabaret......I auditioned for it last night(I like Ludwig and Bobby....hopefully many guys will over look this part)....anyways, if I get cast as Bobby I'm going to do my best to get to be in the "2 Ladies" number. We are doing the 1998 updated version, so hopefully........

Mendes messed it all up. It's supposed to be a great dance number for the Emcee and two ladies.

Yep - it was kind of stupid and lame with a guy, much as I love Michael O'Donnell.

Can anyone name (without IBDB cheating) the "Lady" from the 1987 revival who went on to have a successful career in TV?

Is it usually a guy that dances the gorilla part in "If You Could See Her"?

In the 1987 revival, it was Grey's understudy - a tiny little guy. In the production I'm in now, we're using a woman. I don't know how it's traditionally done.

No - it takes away from the number.

When a guy plays it, the audience spends the whole number thinking one of two things:

"Wow, that woman is ugly"

or

"Is that a man?"
