Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Anyone know if they're even honoring past dating? I tried at the end of Tony award campaign season and it was a no and frankly I don't want to wait on hold if it's going to be another no!

During the last 2 weeks? Not a chance.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Christopher Abbot was out of today’s Salesman so I took the refund option and b-lined it to the Broadhurst. Today was my last chance to see either show one more time before closing. Glad I chose (and barely got into) the Jellicle Ball. Salesman is exceptional though, the Ball, in my opinion, is the best show on Broadway and among the best I’ve seen in 20 years.

I saw that Jack Falahee and Jake Silberman were on for the sons and I would’ve KILLED to have been there for that.

No, I didn’t miss the point. I’m not criticizing your choice to exchange at all. I just happen to be a fan of both from their careers on TV that I would’ve been thrilled to see them on stage.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Last night, Terrence Mann was one of the guest judges and, as the original Tugger, the cast had a field day with it.

When Terrence did his runway walk, him and Ken Ard cheered and blew kisses for each other and it was a sweet moment. Then during “RTT”, when Sillabub has his full body collapse, Sydney turned him, pointed, and said “Yeah. You get it”. Finally, Bebe went for the deep cut during “Macavity” and, while futzing the remote, she ad-libbed with “Is there a code on this? Oh right, 2-4-6-0-1” and the audience ate it up

Looks like quizking101’s change.org petition finally paid off…what I’m wondering though is if it’s gonna be a complete cast recording or just a highlights album (personally hoping its the former)

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Until I get an actual verifiable confirmation, I’m holding off on declaring victory.

But if the preliminary rumors are true, then there’s gonna be a LOT of doubters who will be eating a steady diet of crow.

Well as soon as you do get that confirmation…let us know

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Exactly. To my understanding - there has been a lot of back and forth on this matter because of the show’s incredibly shaky financials, so I’m going to keep optimism, but cautiously.

Someone told me the Moistened One “confirmed” it and I trust him as much as I trust RFK Jr. with a head of lettuce

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

I really hope they can find a way to do a good live performance album. It would be a beautiful miracle if they can find a way to capture the live energy of that show.

And it must, it simply must, include the entirety of the Old Deuteronomy dance party.

Well if it helps, I did receive a DM on my IG from one of the cast members today (not gonna say who) but they did say “you’re going to get some good news soon.” I guess a cast album is exactly what they meant!

If it does end up being a live album…I hope they do some serious mixing so you can hear the actual show more than the audience reactions. It’s something that Sunset Blvd. (and hopefully soon Evita) did PERFECTLY! I also hope they include Junior LaBeija’s pre-show message because that will go down as one of the best pre-show messages of all time

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Junior’s invocation to GET. YOUR. LIFE. would really carry so much weight in this album. It’s basically unfettered permission to enjoy it without shame.

Bout god damn time something starts going right.

Also, I noticed they changed the Playbill design? Seems kind of weird to do literally right before you close?

This is the kind of absurdity that has carried this whole discussion and is such a turn off for so many of us.

I really hope the fans get this recording. It has always seemed highly unlikely to me that it would happen. If it does happen, that is no reason for me or anyone who found it highly unlikely to "eat crow." As indeed, it happening was highly unlikely, whatever the outcome. We weren't wrong. It's just that sometimes the unlikeliest odds pay off.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Listen, I poured my heart into lobbying for this and got crap from a bunch of people on this board, including some suggesting that I need help.

If the rumor is true, then yeah, I’m gonna feel vindicated and it’s going to be at the expense of those who basically laughed me off from the jump.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Please, for the love of god, let this cast recording be true. I won't get my hopes up until a press release, but it would make my day, my month, my YEAR! I need some of those vogue breakdowns & chants preserved in high quality. I'm an OG Cats fan, but I thought this production was transcendent. I also keep seeing the "it was vocally nothing special", which I just don't get. One of my favorite aspects of this revival WAS the voices.

I'll never understand those who say this production is too divorced from the original material, because the dramaturgy is incredibly tight. It might be the difference between being very familiar with ballroom & Cats as a text vs. not, but I could write a dissertation on the choices made and why they work. Even the "well, they're not actually Cats" is shut down from the opening song's lyric of "Allegorical cats, Metaphorical cats"; it's in the text!

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

People on this board continue to find new ways to be unbelievably cruel to others for no reason at all other than to feel better about themselves and it’s pretty darn sad.

Anyways, I hope the rumors are true. I will cherish this album if and when it comes out.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

I saw it again last night (after seeing it at The Cube) and one thing I did find myself thinking was I would have liked to have heard the words in the text a bit more.

It feels like more of a spectacle on Broadway on its own terms and less of a heartfelt, daring, and incredibly apt interpretation of the original material.

It’s still a fantastic show and it’s sad to see it end its run.
