Talk has arisen about broadway singers who smoke, so who do you know who smoke? Don't bother launching anti-smoking rants - - let's get to the facts. I've been told that smoking will destroy a voice much sooner than it destroys a life, so what are the facts? anybody know? Alleged smokers include: Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth, Norbert.. any truth to those rumors?
Wisdom often comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone
I don't know about the people you mentioned (I personally couldn't imagine Kristin smoking), but I know that Euan Morton smokes, and I REALLY wish he would stop...
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.
For some reason I can't see Kristin smoking, and her voice seems uneffected by it if she does! Michelle Federer smokes I'm pretty sure, so Norbert probably does too!
I don't know who else..they are all stupid if they do!
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
It probably affects their voices, they've just been smoking for the whole time that fans have known them and heard them so we can't tell the difference between what they sounded like before smoking and what they do now. If they'd stop smoking they would probably sound much better.
Or maybe that's why Idina sounded like she was gasping for air during Wicked!
Oops, did I just say that out loud?

I love Les Miserables.
My new pic is me(on the left)at my last dance recital:(
Billy Porter smokes, too. he's my fav male singer by far.
let's get this cleared up about smoking...many smokers have better voices/wider ranges beacuse their chords can take more abuse...due to the constant smoke...their careers will be shorter, but with the tightly defined "types" on broadway...that usually isn't as big an issue as if they were opera singers.
So...i'm not as dogmatic about smoking as others...with that said...it just smells nasty and isnt fun to kiss.

Of course, Eileen Brennan smoked and you can hear how her voice deteriorated. I played my LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE and HELLO, DOLLY CDs for ten of my frineds once. NONE of them believed that Eileen Brennan used to be able to sing like that.
One has to wonder if Julie Andrews vocal problems could have been avoided if she hadn't smoked.
And we ALL know about Yul Brenner.
Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!
Watch the stage door after a show. Half the cast is lighting up as they are walking out. I think smoking affects everyones voice to a degree. SOme much more than others. And it also depends on how much you smoke. A pack a day versus 2 or three single cigarettes is different.
Adam Pascal does smoke, there's pics from the set of Rent with him, Rosario, and Jesse and Adam is smoking.
1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys
Some rumors say Idina smokes, but I'm not sure. I can't imagine Kristin and Norbert though. Oh, and MTRBOI24, I read something Idina posted somewhere a while ago, she said she didn't drink. And yeah, I think Adam Pascal smokes.
