What’s going on with Rocky ? I know Luke doesn’t perform Sundays but will this last without him ?

Luke was (unannounced) out of the shows Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. He performed the Friday and Saturday shows only. He has 2 weeks left.

I’m sure Wicked will still do well during the holidays and Halloween. In wandering if they will still do 9 shows during those weeks

The first movie reminded everyone that WICKED is great, and the second part reminded everyone that the second act of WICKED is mostly not-great, especially when divorced from the first act immediately before it.

There have been rumors that David Stone and Mark Platt are exploring a "LES MIS in 2003" situation, where they close and then return in a few years, slimmed-down. I don't necessarily believe that, and they can afford to keep it running should they wish to do that (and it would be advantageous for Nederlander to do all it can to keep that show at the Gershwin). But purely from a salaries standpoint, a cast of 48 and an orchestra of 24 is massive. And even if they managed to cut 6 from the band and 6 from the cast, a savings of about $50K is not going to have a big impact (and could have political repercussions).

Just In Time announced they have tickets on sale through February 2027 now.

Two Strangers might do a October closing. Also, guessing nothing new is eyeing that theater, so maybe they're getting a break on their rent?

I thought the same thing. I think the problem that the show now has it that A LOT of people saw the second movie and really disliked / hated it. If the movie had been as well received as the first one, things'd be different. I suspect that it will still be playing for a long time at the Gershwin. because it is the only real hit that theatre has ever had, and there is really no guaranty that anything that follows it can fill that barn. Also, I suspect this will fall into a pattern where every holiday week grosses enough to sustain a lot of money losing weeks. Also, once the a**-hole is gone from the White House, I assume that tourism will rebound, and a lot of tourists will once again want to see Wicked.

If MINCEMEAT has survived this long with the grosses and cast size it has, TWO STRANGERS should be just fine. If anything, it’s going to be a matter of finding replacements. It’s a good time to be a quirky British musical with low overhead.

That CATS number thrills me as much as it makes me sad. I’m almost certain if they took it to Labor Day and gave it more of a runway to close, it probably would’ve been doing this kind of business for the rest of the summer. The problem was just that they had absolutely no money left in the till to keep it running any longer. I am furious…but I am sailing.

I don’t see Schmigadoon going past January. Their biggest star is Ana Gasteyer and she leaves in September. Of the shows to win Best Musical, it was certainly a milquetoast one that doesn’t really have much to offer in terms of multiple viewings. Rocky Horror isn’t going to pack it in before Halloween and I think their numbers will go up when the spooky season comes around, leading into holiday tourism. LOST BOYS is a wild card because it has a fan base built in - the same ones as THE OUTSIDERS - but LB is a MUCH larger show and so they may not have the financial legs to dip too much too often.

Honestly, it’s so hard to predict anymore because there is no semblance of consistency when it comes to closings anymore, Some producers have endless cash flow to piss away, while others are gambling week to week. The Shuberts seem more keen on invoking their stop clauses as opposed to the Nederlanders as of late.

Also, here’s a sad fact - On 9/27, Flea Market Sunday, only 3 of the 10 theatres between 44th/45th and Shubert Alley will have an actively running show.

Even though I liked Schmigadoon a lot and was happy with it winning the big prize, I've long been disgruntled that Passion is at the bottom of the list of Broadway runs for Best Musical winners, and I wouldn't be sad to see that indignity come to an end this year.
