Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

I stopped drinking booze and saved SO much money - I bring a bottle of water to the theatre (maybe even a granola bar, if I’m feeling VERY rebellious).

I’m more likely to spend my money at a theatre if they’re creative with their snacks: peanuts, Kit Kats, and M&Ms are ill-inspired offerings.

Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

I'm going to push back on stadium food pricing because I just paid $8.75 for a 32 oz Pepsi in a souvenir cup at Yankee Stadium, and that's pretty fair compared to a $9 can of ginger ale. Soda costs pennies but the cup is pretty sturdy this year, definitely a keeper.

I saw a show recently and my friend arrived and said she was hungry and needed a snack. She then purchased an $8 KitKat bar at the theater and I legitimately asked why she didn't buy something on her walk up from Penn because that is just foolish.

This is not "truly a scam." A scam isa dishonestscheme to gain money from someone fraudulently. There is no fraud here. They charge $9 for a soda, your friend voluntarily gave them the money, and they in turn gave him a can of soda. A product was offered for sale, the full price waswillingly paid, and the product wasdelivered exactly as advertised. If you like you can make the argumentthat it's anoutrage or bad behaviorto charge thatmuch for one can ofsoda, but just because you don't like the price doesn't mean anyone was scammed in the purchase process.

Agree 100%.

Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

This thread is so silly. I was a bartender in Broadway theaters for several years and from the moment the sippy cup was introduced it came with a $5 up charge. Sodas have been $10 in Shubert theaters since at least 2010. You get free or discounted soda refills and discounted (because you’ve paid for the cup already) hard beverage refills and bartenders tell you this almost always to soften the blow of the prices. None of these prices are new, it’s not endemic of the current state of Broadway, it’s not a scam, and if you don’t like it don’t buy it.

There was no intermission, and I never heard of them giving a free refill. Has anybody heard this?

Please stop. Mods need to lock this pointless thread.

If you don't like it, don't read it, and definitely don't respond. Just move along, FFS.

Not need to lock this thread or call the OP a troll. The absurdity of concession pricing in theatres is a legitimtate gripe, and part of the enSH*Tfication of the experience.

From the ice clinking, the chip crunching, the candy bag shuffling, to random additions of popcorn and cotton candy, to the prices not be proportional to size, all of which being grubbed down by people that can't sustain themselves for two hours of theatre without bringing a smorgasboard back to their seats.

Post of the day. The minute they allowed people to eat in their seats it became a more movie theater experience which is sad IMO. Concession pricing is absurd everywhere, ballparks, arena, amusement parks and movie theaters. I can't remember the last time I had to something to eat or drink at Broadway show. Usually plan on dinner before show and going out for dessert after show.

Yet the OP is a known troll with approximately 16 billion screen names, so maybe don’t post if you don’t know what you are talking about.

Whoopi Monologues doesn't have an intermission.

Plus they expect you to tip even though bartenders are paid at the very least, the NYC wage minimum.

A troll can still have a point. A broken clock is wrong twice a day.

Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

You can buy a 2-liter bottle of generic ginger ale for $1.89, or Canada Dry for $3.69, at any Duane Reade around the theater district. I'd rather do that and enjoy the drink at my leisure (perhaps mixed with something else!) in a comfortable hotel room after the show.
