9 dollar ginger ale

This evening I went to The Whoopi Monologues. My friend was in line for the bar, he said he was getting a ginger ale, I said don’t do it, they’ll charge you $10, as a joke. The bartender said 9 dollars please. This is madness. This is criminal, it’s a scandal and an outrage. I knew it’s crazy overpriced, but my goodness they have taken it to a new level. I knew the alcoholic drinks are expensive but even a damn ginger ale is now almost $10 in the basement of a non profit theater company. Whoever’s paying for this, you’re a fool and a part of the problem.

While I agree with you about the price being nuts, it is not surprising anymore. The solution is don't buy one because the cost is not going to get cheaper. In addition, the profit margin on the ginger ale is huge.

In other news, gas is too expensive.

Yes, it is but also depends on where you live. I got gas the other day for $3.34 a gallon which included my 10-cent discount for using my Exxon card.

We complain when theaters get greedy with ticket prices - we're allowed to complain about drink prices too.

I think this is an important post, because we need to remember this when billionaires are crying about how they can't make any money on broadway.

Maybe they're driving people away with certain practices. Maybe they're just ultra- greedy people and are doing just fine but are complaining in public to try and get even more.

Maybe as a society we can stop blaming the working class folks

Stories like this are endemic to the entertainment industry. In the old days we used to call it " crying with a loaf of bread under each arm".

Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

Don’t they give you a refill at intermission. That’s $4.50 a ginger ale.

The most unbelievable thing about your post is that you have a "friend".

Also stop PMing me to try and sell me a ticket -- you are now blocked.

This was your first visit to a NY theatre Flash? And a full sippy cup of wine is more than $40, Flash. If you don’t like it, use the water fountain. And don’t look at concession prices at concerts and sporting events, Flash. It’s the same story.

Flash has also apparently never been to a movie theater, either.

There was no intermission, and I never heard of them giving a free refill. Has anybody heard this?

You must not get out much...welcome to 2026. And as far as your statement, "Whoever’s paying for this, you’re a fool and a part of the problem." didn't you just diss your "friend"?

Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

The good news is that, with prices this high, they can finally afford to freeze them. We shouldn't see any more increases.

Yes, I did diss him because it’s only encouraging the bad behavior!! I thought it would be 6 or 7, but 9 bucks for a can of ginger ale is truly a scam.

This is not "truly a scam." A scam is a dishonest scheme to gain money from someone fraudulently. There is no fraud here. They charge $9 for a soda, your friend voluntarily gave them the money, and they in turn gave him a can of soda. A product was offered for sale, the full price was willingly paid, and the product was delivered exactly as advertised. If you like you can make the argument that it's an outrage or bad behavior to charge that much for one can of soda, but just because you don't like the price doesn't mean anyone was scammed in the purchase process.

Re: 9 dollar ginger ale

I stopped drinking booze and saved SO much money - I bring a bottle of water to the theatre (maybe even a granola bar, if I’m feeling VERY rebellious).

I’m more likely to spend my money at a theatre if they’re creative with their snacks: peanuts, Kit Kats, and M&Ms are ill-inspired offerings.
