Why Did You Join BWW?
 Sep 19 2024, 12:13:44 PM

I was a high schooler who cared more about theatre than anyone else I knew, and I wanted to find a community where I could have two-way conversations about Broadway.

Thanks for the company these last 10 years, friends.

Beanie Feldstein & More to Star in SPELLING BEE at Kennedy Center
 Sep 18 2024, 01:14:54 PM

Finn's done significant rewrites on his other shows for their major revivals (the Broadway revival of Falsettos and the Encores revival of A New Brain). Do you think he'll do any for Spelling Bee?

Favorite spots for Pre-Broadway Drinks/Dinner

On my first real trip to New York in college, we stayed on the Hotel Edison, which was next door to Carve, on the corner of 47th and 8th. An over-the-counter place, they sell Pizza by the slice, Egg on a roll, that kind of thing. I was a broke college kid, so it was the only place I could afford to eat at during the trip. I can afford to eat at much nicer places now, but Carve's got sentimental value, so every time I'm in New York, I make it a point to stop at Carve and grab a slice o

A Malaysian theatre company made an unauthorized concept album 2 years ago.

It is... as every bit as insane as you could imagine.

Before today, I'd never thought any of Donna Tartt's novels would work as musicals, but that idea would be Jeanine Tesori's masterpiece.

I've always held the belief that these are 3 minutes of the finest acting ever filmed.

An absolute legend.

Interesting that they're going for a cast filled with actors primarily known for comedy. Wonder how that'll make Mamet's dialogue play differently compared to previous productions.

The copy of the published script that I have describes the play as a comedy. I don't know if I'd call it that, but I believe what Vince Gi

NYT: Benj Pasek and Justin Paul Join the EGOT Club. What Does That Mean?

If Pasek was 3 months younger, he also would have beaten Robert Lopez's record of being the youngest EGOT winner.

I also wish we'd get more work like Dogfight from them (it's never too late for a revival), but I really enjoyed their work on Only Murders and Spirited.

Darren Criss and Helen J Shen Will Lead MAYBE HAPPY ENDING on Broadway

These tracks are great. I get Sondheim vibes from the melodic choices, but there's a unique modern feel too.

There's nothing wrong with a pop sound necessarily, if that's where a composer shines, but once in a while, you get a Dave Malloy or a Shaina Taub, who bring a sound that doesn't fit a mold. That's the music I'm most interested to hear, and that's what this show sounds like.

Kenny Ortega and Disney+ developing PHANTOM OF THE OPERA reimagining

Why not make this all easier and adapt the Goosebumps musical that's already a retelling of POTO? They already have the TV show on Disney Plus, just make it a special episode.

THE NOTEBOOK to Close on Broadway on December 15, 2024
 Sep 6 2024, 12:29:16 PM

my guess is that between the money earned from Doubtfire, and the money lost on Notebook, it's about a wash. This way, his tax burden will be lower, and he gets to build buzz for the Notebook tour, which will likely do very well on the road (much like Doubtfire did)

THE NOTEBOOK to Close on Broadway on December 15, 2024

McCollum is refusing to close the show. Dec. 15 is the latest it can close in order to turnaround the theater for its next tenant.
"

Word on the street is that he's using the show as a tax write-off for Mrs. Doubtfire, which has been making bank on the road.

Darren Criss and Helen J Shen Will Lead MAYBE HAPPY ENDING on Broadway

"I think people think this is going to be a small, cute little show about robots in the future... This is a balls-to-the-wall spectacle in the way that in the 80s, we had Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera-- these huge, theatrical spectacles that like, when you went to the theatre it was like, 'Whoa, how did they do that?,,, I think there will be something like a chandelier that will be the new version of, 'Oh my God, that's the big thing to see on Broadway.&qu

I love Stupid F-ing Bird, but when it comes to the rest of Chekhov, I just can't get into it. I respect hi

I also don't know what being a dramaturg means.

Some drama surrounding Book of Mormon, where Lopez and Marx were supposed to collaborate.

Jeff Whitty said he wanted to make rewrites to Avenue Q in the future, which may be worth the trouble if he ever is able to recover his career enough to get anyone to read a draft.
