hey my name is amanda and tomorrow i start theatre camp for a production of grease. Tomorrow is the dance audition and tuesday is the singing. I need to find a song (it can't be from grease) to fit me (im an alto and 14 years old) if you have any suggestions that would be great.
It puzzles me why everyone waits until the last minute to find an audition song...if someone really wanted a part, they would have been looking for the song weeks in advance.
We can't help you - if we come up with songs you don't know, you don't have time to learn them properly for Tuesday. And if we come up with songs you do know, well, you already know them. You need to do a song you already know.
Have I ever shown you my Shattered Dreams box? It's in my Disappointment Closet. - Marge Simpson
ummmm....when i do auditions, i TOTALLY freak out and pick the song about 25 - 50 days in advance. Pick a song you know well or -- i'm sorry to say this -- you won't sound prepared, serious, or good......unless of course your voice is AMAZING and you rock their socks off. Sorry to break it to you
All I can say is to stay away from the cliches (i.e. Wicked, Les Miserables) STAY AWAY FROM WICKED! I am as well a 14-year old and heard Popular 7 (yes 7) times in one audition. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

To show my gratitude, I'll offer you this pointy black hat, which is just like the one Original Wicked Witch Margaret Hamilton wore in the movie!

What a great idea! How about throughout the play, you continue to offer me things like a black cloak, or a black
cape, or a broom to make me look more and more like Margaret Hamilton did! These attempts at humor will be painfully
predictable from a mile away!
AUDIENCE collectively groans.
Can i say that you are WAAAY late. I have been working on my audition song since November, and I am still working on perfecting it. They say it takes a year to get a song down perfect...it's true! Use a song that you are used to, don't try to come up with something last minute! Chances are it WON'T work out that well for you, unless you are just amazingly beautiful and talented...like me. Just kidding .hehe

Actually, maybe you could do "Far From the Home I Love" From Fiddler.

BabyJohn, not for Grease. The styles of those shows are so completely different...
Yeah. By this point, go with something you already know, it's way too late to learn a new song. Whatever you have that's fun, up-tempo, and sort of generic sounding (i.e. not really classical Broadway or super modern rock musical) should be fine.
Defying Gravity Astonishing Take Me or Leave Me La Vie Boheme B (They really love it if you can pull off all the parts) And I know you're an alto, but this really WOWs them: Angel of Music...yep yep.
Just to throw a few out there....
Wow, that must've been the meanest thing I've EVER done on these boards.
Tip for next time-start preparing for your audition as soon as you find out your show. Buy the cast recording, research roles and pick out a song at least a week before your audition, unless you find out later.
i guess i should have probably been more clear. usually for an audition im all ready and everything with a song, but ive done this camp for three years and all three years they provided a song from the musical to learn there, and everyone found out about needing a song they day before it. but today was my first day and they had tons of sheet music books so i decided to do good morning baltimore because ive done it in workshops so i already know it. thanks though for the helP!
Something from Bye Bye Birdie or Tommy? Ooh, something from Fame would be excellent.
