"Parks, for someone with no stage experience, she's pretty good."
Did she get through the end of Mama I'm a Big Girl Now without cracking when you saw it?

I have never seem so much drama in my life. The Hairspray folks were sure smart about casting Duff-it just keeps the wheels turning over here at BWW. Y'all cant stop kicking the girl in the teeth and talking about her. For a no-talent hack riding her sister's coattails, y'all talk about her enough. As for Darlene Love, very few people know who she is and she is not a draw unless someone is aware of her. She was more of a name many moons ago. Broadway fans sometimes forget about the rest of the world that is not familiar with obscure names. Duff is a current name in the teen world and in the Disney market, she's much more relevant and viable than Darlene Love. I don't know much about Duff, but I don't vehemently hate her like so many others on here.

No, Hilary is younger than Haylie. Im almost positive.

Muscle, you're right-she is 2 years older. I just checked IMDB. She was on VH1 the other night talking about how much she loves being on stage. I say live and let live. The girl is happy.

So the audience should have to suffer because she is happy?
Haylie seems like a sweet enough girl (from the videos I've seen at least) and it's true that she's improved the box office. However, if she infact can't sing the role properly then she really shouldn't have been cast. That's not really too outrageous of a stance to take, is it? The whole thing just seems lazy on the producer's part. I don't have a problem with stunt casting, but at least cast someone who can actually perform the role. There are plenty of people they could've gone to.

No, the normal audience doesn't suffer, because they have never seen anyone else in the role and don't know her songs by heart, and most of that audience will go to see Hairspray because they know Haylie Duff. I have no interest to see this 2002's show, and no desire to see Miss Duff, so i won't go to see her. The audience can choose NOT to see her.

I only know of a few folks on here who report to suffering. I do not believe we have enough information to note it as a scientific fact that Duff is deplorable in the role. Amber is not a big enough part to ruin a fluff piece of theatre like Hairspray. Im sure the musical will survive Miss Duff and y'all can go on to shred whoever replaces her that is not a Broadway vet.

I agree, but I agree in the sense that this statement should apply to all Broadway actors, not just the "stunt cast" actors. There are many other people in Hairspray, among other shows, who can't sing the part. But these people aren't famous, so we don't turn our attention to them. When I saw Hairspray a few months ago, I thought the girl who played Tracy sucked.
I think this is the least of the world's worries. What we should all worry about is Paris Hilton has an frickin' record deal. What the hell is up with that?
What's next? Star Jones in a thong commercial? (Sadly, this could actually happen if she can't find any work soon.)
BJH-you raise a stunning point. Rarely do I see a show where some "unknown" actor/actress is singing flat, off-key, through their nose or sharp. Sucking in a show is relative. Even unknowns on Broadway can be wretched actors. I guess D-list celebrities just get the brunt of abuse. Isn't their lackluster career enough suffering for them? Why do we need to abuse them too?

Hairspray was sold out all 3 shows this weekend. Isnt that enough said? Producers are making their money, people are coming back to see the show again and young teen girls are going to theatre to see someone other than a green witch. I see nothing wrong with this. It worked on me, I went just to se Haylie and I must say, I honestly enjoyed her performance. Was she perfect? No. Was she the best possible person for the role? Probably not. Did she deliver a very good preformance? Yes. Will she get better as time goes on? Im sure. Haylie Duff is not killing Hairspary. She was no better and no worse than anyone else Ive seen in the role. Compared to some other stunt casting in recent years, I think she fit the show very well.
I think the people in the The Reviews Are In video are pretty sad. If they thought she was "really good" that must be the only Broadway show they've ever seen. I know that sounds mean.
