this is true.

I love how if you disagree with one thing St. Chenoweth IX does, you're a hater.

argh.

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

I hope they will use Dusty's vocals in the movie! I can't imagine (and don't really even want to hear) Kristin doing "Son Of A Preacher Man" - her voice is SO different and SO much higher than Dusty's.

I think she can pull it off when it comes to acting the part, but singing... use Dusty's vocals, please!!

Skip Aretha Franklin, I want to see Kristen play Mohammed Ali! Now that would be a beautiful challenge!

And Tonya you are absolutely right--I don't understand the word "hater." I'm suprised you didn't pick that up from my cryptic comment "Tonya. What exactly do you mean by "Haters?" I'll try to be more specific in the future.

I guess we have to accept that Hollywood is not choosing the best actor for the part. IMO, Chenoweth is too squeeky and soft for Dusty. What's next, Chenoweth as Janis Joplin?

But even as I'm typing this, Reese Witherspoon is trying to play June Carter Cash which is a disaster waiting to happen.

"produced by Universal's Marc Platt, actress Chenoweth and Untitled Entertainment's Danielle Thomas "

Isn't Marc Platt one of the Wicked producers?

Also, how tall was Springfield? Isn't that funny that Driver and Chenoweth were talking about the same role, and one's a whole foot taller than the other.

Ya know it really doesn't have anything to do with being a hater or even disagreeing. I mean you can say she might not be appropriate for the role. That's fine. But the problem is the movie has just been announced and people here are so freaking negative. They don't say wow weird, I'll have to see it. They say What? this is stupid, it will be horrible. I say give someone a chance and THEN say wow that didn't work. I think Tonya was just responding to those who sort of attack the person rather than the project. SO if that wasn't you then she wasn't talking about you. I've read some foolish posts on here where people did bash on the person.

there's a pic of her in the role

I don't know why everyone's complaining, I'm excited to see Kristin more.

I think it's gonna be a great part. Dusty was an amazing woman and if the script is not botched like Beyond The Sea, it should be very interesting.

I'd wait and see before I criticize the casting. Sure, Kristin Chenoweth has a... peculiar speaking voice but she might be able to change it to sound more like Dusty. I mean, her speaking voice in The Music Man was VERY different from her usual Minnie on helium. As for her not looking like Duty, well... she can't play only 4'11 women, can she? Where is it written that biopics shoud cast only clones of the people they portray?

And I certainly hope they don't use Dusty's vocals. It's a movie about a singer, not a documentary. At least Chenoweth can sing.

It's an odd choice but it's miles better than casting Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff or another of those All American pseudo singers/actresses who can neither act nor sing and look so plain that they can be made up into anything.

Angela Bassett wasn't a dead ringer for Tina but she ended up doing a hell of a job because she really disappeared into her character and that's what actresses are supposed to do, right?

Sally, that link didn't work for me...

This is not a debate about talent - Kristin is enormously talented, and I for one would be truly excited to see her with a lead role in a feature film.

That being said, however, this is not the lead role for her. She is PHYSICALLY and VOCALLY completely wrong for this role. Those are not things that can be changed by "good acting." She has been cast only because she, her friend Platt, and her management company are putting up the money.

oh my bad, I gave you the wrong link,

But I should point out: I heard this was her in the role only from a friend, so I'm not sure if it's true, you can make your own judgements for that

and I suppose I can't argue what everyone's saying about how she just doesn't match the role, seeing as how I never really had a good listen to Dusty.

What a negative way to see things re: Yet another Chenoweth movie in the works.... She has connections, for sure, and she'd be the blondest actress not to use them... but maybe she really did think the part was interesting and loved Dusty and started the idea of a Dusty biopic. i'm not saying that's what happened, there's just reasonable doubt, your honor re: Yet another Chenoweth movie in the works...

You assume that a producer in a movie is the guy putting up the big bucks but it's usually the studio that finance a movie. Producers work for the studios or have independant development deals but that doesn't mean putting money into it, that most often means getting money out of it, but that's beside the point re: Yet another Chenoweth movie in the works...

and as I said, Dusty cannot be cloned... physically or vocally. Maybe it's a good thing that they are not trying to get an impersonator... I guess only the movie will tell.

I am a huge fan of letting people play roles that you don't immediately see them in and thinking outside the box when it comes to casting..and I adore Kristin. BUT, I just think it would make more SENSE for someone more naturally suited (physically and esp. vocally) to play the role. Am I crazy or is this not what casting is all about anyway?-finding the best person for the role, not jut the best person in general

I will say this I am in total awe of her management team- they are building her career @ the rate of rocket- now if they can just stabilize it for a long orbit.

Yikes! Well, if she can pull this off, she can do anything. For those of you unfamiliar with Dusty Springfield, she was a true blue-eyed soul singer - if you heard her on the radio not knowing who she was, it would be easy to think she was black. Aside from being a husky alto, she had an almost vibratoless tone and a very laidback sound. Does that sound much like Ms. Chenoweth?

It would be a shame if a whole generation only knew Dusty from seeing her portrayed by someone so different from her.

I love Kristin but as most have said, the casting choice is indeed unusual to an extreme degree. Kristin sounds like almost the polar opposite vocally and physically from Dusty Springfield based on the descriptions of her. But again, if she can pull this off she can truly be called an actress that can do anything. I'll be very interested to see how this turns out.

I can't even think about the Kristen-Dusty movie. It's awful casting. Perhaps they can dub her voice over? Get Kirstie Alley to cover the Chenoweth chipmunk voice.

Next they'll be casting Sutton Foster as Laura Nyro.

Umm. yeah. I kinda agree with TonyaFanatic here. If everyone here was just running with the "questionable casting choice" line, why is the THREAD TITLE "*Yet another* Chenoweth movie.."? Sounds a little angled towards the NOT liking her. Why people back-peddle so much around here is beyond me. And all the retorts such as "jeez guys, I'm not knocking her, I'm just sayin' that someone else might be better!". Right. So alluding to her "chipmunk voice" is just someone being diplomatic. Is it professional jealousy, or something less substantial? Maybe she forgot to thank you personally in her Tony win! That must be it!!

Sigh.

i love cheno & i WORSHIP Dusty...

but i cant imagine how this would work.

Dusty's voice is low & husky; physically she looked like an unexperienced drag queen...tall & big-boned, overcompensating with mascara & boofy blonde wigs.

cheno's voice is chirpy & sweet, her body is tiny & dainty.

oh well, if it brings more attention & respect to Dusty, then i am all for it!
