James Dolan is floating another ten years for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere. BWW story
I know the reflex here is to say it isn't theatre and move on, but a permanently-installed title in a 17,000-seat room is competing for the same tourist dollar and the same family-of-four decision that a Broadway sit-down or a first-class tour is chasing. If that's the model, Vegas stops being a place shows go to die and starts being a place they get built for.... again.
Does anyone think this actually pulls audience away from the road, or is Sphere its own separate thing that never touches us? I know they have Rocky Horror next too.
