Actually, it is known for sports also with NFL, NHL and MLB (Oakland playing 6 games there in 2026) teams playing there. Currently, the Las Vegas Golden Knights are in the Stanley Cup finals (down 3 games to 2)

Since the Smith Center was built, there have been a string of successful seasons catering to the Broadway tours. Additionally, the Venetian is now getting their toes wet by booking engagements of The Book of Mormon and Mrs. Doubtfire. Las Vegas is not NYC, but it is holding its own.
Also, this was just published in the Las Vegas Weekly about the local theatre scene.

This post is not about live theatre but about a cinema venue in Las Vegas that I cherish: The Beverly Theater.
They show old films, independent films, and foreign films.
Even though I live 30 minutes south of Las Vegas, I drive to downtown Vegas at least once a week to see a film at the Beverly.
It's a treasure!

The last time I was there was in October of 2009 and yes, they were still there. And they flicked them so they made a loud snapping noise. It was a bit annoying, but it was Vegas!

People go to NY for Broadway (and other things) People go to Vegas to gamble and spend time in the land of excess. They aren't the same. If I want to see theater (in the US) I'm going to NYC, sure, I MIGHT catch a show somewhere else - but that's not my priority anywhere else.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I don't gamble, but I choose Las Vegas as I'm on the West Coast and it is a relatively short flight, there is good weather in the Fall when it's already getting cold & wet up here, and you can get a decent resort stay for cheap. I've got a 5 night stay booked for October for $376US including the resort fees. Try doing that in NYC.
I already have tickets to see Oh Mary at the Smith Center, and will probably see Josh Groban. Not sure yet what I'll see the other nights. I'm not interested in Metallica.

A lot of junk is falling on the audience, including paper leaves, fake snow, and Styrofoam apples that are already ending up on eBay for $400. They have flying monkeys made out of some type of plastic that are hovering over the audience.
During the tornado scene there is a lot of wind blowing on people. The seats are vibrating. And they have real fire. They did show restraint, however, and refrained from dropping a large house on 40 people in the audience.
The theater sounds like a terrible echo chamber. And the extended background looks like something used for a zoom meeting.
Tickets are ranging from $200-$1000.
I think that, due to rising prices, Vegas has gradually ceased to be a place where the primary focus is on entertainment. This might be linked to the fact that many games have moved online, which is far more convenient. For instance, I simply visit https://slototimes.com/ pick a highly-rated game right on my phone, and start playing. It seems that today, Vegas caters more to wealthy clients than to the average visitor.

That sounds more like a reimagining than a restoration. At those ticket prices, I'd rather watch the original film at home!

It’s a site-specific immersive experience. You’re not paying that much just to see a movie. You’re not getting “Oz at the Sphere” anywhere other than Las Vegas.
As if that movie needs any further restorations to begin with. It’s in 4K Ultra HD. It’s been restored a dozen times since 1989 alone. What more could there possibly be to restore? Stay home. You’re not the audience they’re going for.
I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.
