What shows (plays and musicals) are your guilty pleasures? Mine are: Legally Blonde Shrek Thoroughly Modern Millie Xanadu Sister Act Kinky Boots Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown Wonderland Bonnie and Clyde 9 to 5
I'm probably the only person who enjoyed Breakfast at Tiffany's last year. I also LOVE Mary Poppins.
"The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world." - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Definitely Carrie, though I don't know if such a good score can be considered a guilty pleasure. I guess the guilty part is that I (belatedly) love the original production. I mean, it just looked so darn COOL, the whole show was like minimalist pop art giallo.
Also, the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is pretty terrible, but I love the Augustus Gloop songs and I don't know how ashamed I feel about that. They're fun, idk.
One of my biggest is the Lord of the Rings musical. I haven't seen it, and I've heard the book was a disaster. But I'll be damned if that score isn't breathtaking.
I would also put Annie and Bring it On in there, as well as Soul Doctor (I know, I know. I'm the only one)
Jekyll and Hyde Legally Blonde (though there are a few things I have issues with) Heathers
I was explaining to someone the other day why I consider Heathers to be a guilty pleasure. My friend asked me if it's bad. I said, "No it's really good! Very well done. But I don't feel like it is a life-changing, influential musical." I will admit though, that I've been listening to the album non-stop for the last week :)
I would not really call some of these guilty pleasures, Legally Blonde won the Olivier Award for Best Musical, Heathers is great, Bonnie and Clyde is a pretty decent show etc
Guilty pleasures would be bad shows you love like Good Vibrations or Dracula
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
