We need another Gypsy revival

Is it time for a new Gypsy revival already? I think so! Let’s get Carolee Carmello as Rose!

We need another Gypsy revival

Too soon at this point.

Give me Sutton Foster at Roundabout in about 10 years - or else, Lady Gaga.

We need another Gypsy revival

Donna Murphy needs to play Rose. She’d be incredible. But I know Sutton Foster is on the docket to do Gypsy with Roundabout Theater Company on Broadway.

We need another Gypsy revival

We need a season with revivals of:

GYPSY
SWEENEY TODD

SOUTH PACIFIC

Yes to a Lincoln Center Fiorello revival, one that could give it the historical realism it would need.

Re: We need another Gypsy revival

I’m so curious what about Sutton Foster’s stage persona or current singing ability makes folks think she should play Rose. I love her but… not seeing it.

This. Would that the last revival had extended with Heather Headley replacing.

It's been 15 years since the last La Cage revival.

They just did it at City Center Encores a few weeks ago.

And that La Cage at City Centre was done badly
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Re: We need another Gypsy revival

Sutton would have made a great Louise back in the day. But Rose she is not.

Maybe Shoshana Bean next? - But like at Papermill, cause you need a star if you want to do this on Broadway again.

Re: We need another Gypsy revival

The only Gypsy revival that is acceptable for the next decade is Harvey Fierstein as Rose with Ginger Minj as Louise.

Jokes aside, I would actually wake up early every single morning to get in the rush line for this.

The only Gypsy "revival" you'll see in your neck of the woods anytime soon is if you turn on your TV and watch TCM on August 27th at 10:30 p.m.

‘That is a brilliant cast. Can we please make this happen.

Re: We need another Gypsy revival

The regional Rose I would most like to see in the next 20 years is Bonnie Milligan.

The movie Rose I would most like to see is Lady Gaga, but I don’t think the show translates that well to the screen.

The only person I could see doing it on Broadway in the next decade or two is Cynthia Erivo. And even then, there are other roles I’d prefer to see her play.

My big takeaway from the Audra/Wolfe revival is the show isn’t as strong as I’d remembered. That first act is long and episodic until If Mamma/All I Need is the Girl/Everything’s Coming Up Roses. It’s the rare show with a better second act than first act. The cast size also makes the running cost pricey, as does the necessity of a decent-sized orchestra.

Re: We need another Gypsy revival

I actually think mostly anytime Rose is not on stage in Act 1, the show could be cut. All I Need Is the Girl, If Mamma was married should be cut. Just go from the TT Grantziger scene; Rose rejecting his offer and causing a scene, June bemoaning her mother, and go right to the scene before Everything’s coming up Roses. All I Need is the girl is an old fashioned break for the audience song but it just stops the action as intended.
