I admit that Panych is "unconventional" in his ideas. My drama teacher saw SWEENEY and said she loved his take on it - however bizarre it was.
NEVER CAN TELL at Shaw was gorgeous!! And the Beatles music was strange but very cool. He did a production of NOTHING SACRED at Shaw last year and it was very good as well.
NOTHING SACRED was another fine production, thanks to Panych and to Mike Shara who is quickly becoming onf of our leading actors (he was a stand-out in TAKE ME OUT.)
SWEENEY was unconventional but in ways that did not serve the piece well.
Also, somone here was asking about ASSASSINS. CanStage already did ASSASINS. They did the Canadian premiere of the piece in 1994 for a critically acclaimed run that was a near sell-out.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I had a feeling they have already done it, and I guess I was right, I just didn't know for sure.
I was just hoping because of the success of the revival.
There are also strong intimations of a Toronto "billy Elliott"- just the big sitdown production the Mirvishes have been looking for. ( hey if the Coronation St viewers ALONE come it should sell out the Alex!) ( YES I KNOW that's Manchester, it's the Brit style I'm refering to)
Tag, I'm pretty sure Spamalot will be the tour and not a sit-down as well - the site mentioned that there will be future dates in Canada, so Toronto seems to be a given! (And please, please come to Vancouver!)
I've read Morris Panych's plays (and played Nurse Wilson in "Seven Stories"!) but will be seeing him direct for the first time this spring - he's doing "Waiting For Godot" at Vancouver's Stanley Theatre. Should be interesting!
"It's not always about you!!!" (But if you think I'm referring to you anyway, then I probably am.)
"Good luck returning my ass!" - Wilhemina Slater
"This is my breakfast, lunch and f***ing dinner right here. I'm not even f***in' joking." - Colin Farrell
I've just recently started going to see shows on my own, is there any discounts for Toronto shows like they have in NYC? At the moment I can only see one show a year because of ticket prices.
Sadly there is only the TOTIX booth in Dundas square that does day of tkts but I do not believe Mirvish Prods participate. Canstage does BUT u do not get a hard tkt only a coupon. U then have to go to the theatre to trade it for an actual seat. A lot of extra time involved.
