Do we know why? Or who is being considered instead?
"

He got a yearlong gig as the 40TH anniversary Phantom on the West End. That’s a level of career prestige you won’t get from a revival of a baseball musical.

If ALW is signing off on you leading the 40TH anniversary of his most well-known flagship musical, all else bedamned
"

It's also a guaranteed paycheck for a year, unlike Damn Yankees.

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

So I didn't know who Timothy Hughes was and assumed he was a critic. Now that I know he's an actor, yeah, this feels like one of those situations where I would teach my kids that every thought they have doesn't necessarily need to be posted on social media. Makes him sound like a real douche.

He's reportedly been replaced by Neil Patrick Harris.

Fun fact: Jere Shea played Joe Hardy in the out of town tryout of the 1990s Damn Yankees revival, but dropped out of the Broadway transfer to originate the role of Giorgio in Passion. Jarrod Emick replaced him, and won a Tony Award. Will history repeat itself with Donica's replacement...?
"

Any truth to Max Clayton taking over as Joe Hardy? His name came up within our friends group as Dornica's replacement.

Joe Hardy will be played by a Black actor. And his name is Jordan Donica.

Wouldn't that...kinda defeat the whole purpose of this revisal?

So your friend group totally missed the point of this revival?

I will give you that anything is possible when they've seemingly recast the other two roles with tall, leggy white blondes.

And after that - apparently Rob got another (imo, better) job.

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

I really like NPH, but Rob McClure stole that show. He was phenomenal. I can’t see it being anything but inferior to the DC version without him.

Disappointed to hear that Jordan is no longer part of the production, but can’t blame him for taking such an amazing opportunity over Damn Yankees.

I haven’t heard anything about replacing Ana Villafañe as Lola, which honestly is the only casting choice I think they needed to change. She was by far the weakest link. Her singing was decent - but the acting was at best community theatre done in a Kiwanis Club meeting room.

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

Julianne Hough played Lola in the recent workshop with NPH (which I believe Jordan Donica also did, and Leslie Kritzer was Gloria).

Rob McClure will be spending time with a certain bear, from what I hear.

Oh do tell. As Mr. Brown or Mr. Curry? Or someone else?

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

I clearly didn't call you anything. I was just responding to Robbie's question/made up rumor because he, nor his friends, had seen the show or understood they reworked the narrative to center on a black Joe and his motivations regarding his father’s history as a Negro Leagues player. And he spelled his name wrong, so I was simply correcting him.

You are 100% right and while I'm not thrilled they recast Rob with Neil, the actor who is replacing Jordan Donica is a brilliant artist who will be incredible in the part.

Interesting choice since it seemed like they were intentionally going with an Hispanic actor for Lola, which Julianne Hough is definitely not.

I thought Alysha Umphress was great (although they did her a little dirty with the costuming), but I'm not going to say no to Leslie in anything!

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

In a perfect world. I'd love to see Jellicle Ball alums Emma Sofia as Lola and maybe Nora Schell as Gloria, or Bebe Nicole SImpson as either.

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

Rob is the ONLY actor who has any business doing Damn Yankees. He is PERFECTION. I will be very disappointed if he’s not in it and it would be a mistake for him to choose Paddington over Yankees
