SIDE MAN THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE OUR TOWN (Hal Holbrook)
"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."
Tons of choices from over the years (HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES, MASTER HAROLD, THE REAL THING JOE TURNER, AMADEUS), but the original production of ANGELS IN AMERICA blew me away like nothing else I've ever seen.

I thought THE RETREAT FROM MOSCOW and SIXTEEN WOUNDED were amazingly profound new dramas this year and were 100% overlooked.
FROZEN and I AM MY OWN WIFE were the highlights of this years exquisite offering of dramas. They were PACKED with truly powerhouse performances. Just phenomenal.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Unfortunately, I haven't seen many fine productions of plays (since they're usually priced the same as musicals, and given a choice, I'd take the musical), but THE NORMAL HEART shook my emotional core like no other show ever has.

Miami Production of "Death of a Salesman" with Hal Holbrook as Willie Loman 1995 London - "Run for Your Wife" - Mid-1980's Perfect British Farce! by Ray Cooney...The play is so funny that even a group of terrible amateurs I saw a few years age made it work. London - "Stepping Out" Funny poignant...brillianly performed.. died crossing the pond and in Lisa Minelli film version. New York - "Side Man" "Proof".....both these plays are thought provoking, powerful yet easily understood. Ask me tomorrow and the list will probably change.... Worst? "Copenhagen" Huh? ..Nothing like a night of physics and hopscotch. Could be even worse? When Disney produces a non-musical....Did anyone see that plastic, awful, pablumed down version of "The Miracle Worker" on TV a few years back?
I've said it before and I'll say it until i die : "I am My own wife" is a play at its best with great drama and great humor with a perfect performance.
