I thought that the Tonys "In Memoriam" was done better than the Oscars. At least at some point they eventually showed you the person's name.
And, yeah, the sound and camera shots were bad. I mean, how many times did they have to show Elton John during the Billy Elliot segment of the opening?
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
I think this must have been the evil, despicable work of the Emmy Awards Committee! Who's better able, or more inclined, to screw up the Tony coverage than the TV awards people!!!
Lets offer them Radio City Music Hall for the next Emmy Awards show........
Actually, I believe most of the audio problems was with CBS, because I was there live and I could NOT hear any of the chatter that you can hear on the telecast. The only audio problems I can remember was Sutton Foster overpowering everyone in Freak Flag in the opening (I liked that one, though, haha), the mic cutting out in the Guys and Dolls performance, the balance was off for the beginning of the Shrek performance. Other then that I cannot remember anything else. I do remember that Alice Ripley's mic was also super loud during her N2N performance, but I'm not sure if that was intentional?
And being there live I actually thought all the performances were amazing and it def made me want to go see all the shows. Even the Rock of Ages performance was a lot of fun, I loved that we all were given glowsticks, it was really cool to be a part of that.
And the In Memoriam was just beautiful in person with all the candles lit and the orchstra and singers on stage. I was disapointed as how it looked on TV. But it def looked better in person.
I agree Millie. I just noticed the few things you did. I had to hold my hands over my ears for N2N (it was so loud, it hurt), but the opening montage sounded great - as did everything else. I keep hoping to find someone who had a recording I can copy but I have a feeling that I'm going to be really disappointed when I hear it.
