I think Sinners would lend itself much better to musical theatre than, say, The Lost Boys. The spectacle is built in, the emotional stakes (no pun intended) are well-suited to theatre, and it all takes place in essentially one location that could be an absolute banger of a set reveal. I thought the movie itself was a better-than-average vampire movie with some great performances, but to me there’s no denying that the “I Lied to You” Oscar performance alone is proof positive it could be a pretty thrilling theatrical experience under the right direction. It’s an absolute barn burner (pun intended, mostly by Ryan Coogler, who literally burned a barn).
