Prince’s PURPLE RAIN opening at the Majestic in April

years to the day since Prince’s legendary film premiered, and three weeks since the album re-entered the Billboard 200, the stage adaptation of PURPLE RAIN will arrive on Broadway. PURPLE RAIN will premiere next spring at the Majestic Theatre, beginning previews on Friday, March 12, 2027, and officially opening on Monday, April 12, 2027. Tickets will go on sale this September at Telecharge. Casting for the production will be announced at a later date.

This seems like an awfully rushed transfer for a production that was not well-received last fall and had a massive creative shakeup. Although Prince and his song catalogue will be a draw, I wonder how much of one it will be.

People on here underestimate geniuses and their work like Michael Jackson and Prince. The replacements were needed and this is now very exciting.

Agreed. Why rush in a show that obviously had issues? A very stupid move.

The Delacorte is technically larger than The Majestic, seat-wise.

Look, I'm just happy we're getting a few more new musicals this season to begin with. Simple ask but the economy is spiraling out of control.

I've been admiring Rachel Webb from afar since we were both college students, and I'd obviously love to see her continue with this. Panthers and Bobcats unite ;)

Saheem has certainly never directed something with a $30 mil budget. But very few people have.

It will be interesting to see if this team can make a better show than the one that tried out.

I want to know what kind of payday BJJ and Liliana are getting to step away. Especially since they’re retaining the same choreographer, set/video/costume designers, and music supervisor/arranger — so her fingerprints will still be on this show.

Wha?? Who are these "people you know who have worked with her"? Unless something has changed VERY recently, Saheem Ali is a male.

I had already been considering it, but now I guess I have to start planning my next Broadway trip for April.

Curious to see how this show was been reshaped since Minneapolis.

MJ is... problematic. Anything more than that, I can not say for fear of deletion. Perhaps factor that in to your analysis on why people thought it might not last.
