Let me be clear, I dont think it's going to happen, but I do know for a fact that discussions were had about bringing in the tour cast (since most the year long contracts end like november 1 or something) and just remounting it with the OG set (which is still in NYC storage) and then teaching the show to a new touring cast and sending them out to finish the tour.

Literally nothing wants/can afford the Majestic right now. They just announced a developmental workshop of Purple Rain for the fall and its never a good sign to go from OOT back to a workshop so I think we're still plenty far away from seeing it in NYC

If not for the Imperial being open, I would’ve thought DREAMGIRLS could play well here, but that appears to have taken a side road into development hell

They replaced both Lileana Blain-Cruz as director and Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins as bookwriter with Saheem Ali and Peter Duchan, respectively, so it is unsurprising they are back to workshops. The show as it was in Detroit functionally no longer exists.

While it is heartwarming to hear that the 1988 set is still in storage AND still in New York City, CamMack will never let that original set see the light of day again, especially now that so much advertising and image creating has been done to convince everyone that the new US tour and the new London production are the Prince/Bjornson original.

I've never wanted to disagree so much, but I fear you are correct. I've come to truly despise Cameron Mackintosh. He's even selling tour merch emblazoned with the text, "The Brilliant Original", no doubt because he's trying to distance this tour from his previous "reimagined" mess. Personally, I wish the Prince, Bjornson, and Lynne estates would sue him for implying that this tour comprises their original production.

And the fact that they seem to have dropped 'The' from the title and its now often advertised as 'Phantom of the Opera'
