The people who boycott Scott Rudin shows probably do boycott MJ. They have certainly been outspoken about boycotting Harry Potter, so I have no reason to believe they are celebrating Michael Jackson either.

Sure, but their estates still get all the money from supporting these shows. Same with MJ who others are saying we should boycott because of Michael Jackson, who was also long dead before this production existed. And while JK Rowling is alive, she's about uninvolved with the Harry Potter stage show as any of those others are (collecting money from it, but having nothing to do with it) yet everyone wants to boycott it. So, it's just interesting how it's "some people do this and we have to shut them down" and "others do the same but it's okay". Not saying either stance is right or wrong, it's just wildly inconsistent.

What should be up next for the Broadhurst is a refurb and updating of the seating. That place is such a dump.

The success of Death of a Salesman (and the great play that was Little Bear Ridge Road), just further cement Rudin as a producer with exquisite taste and that the terminal online with pitchforks and torches for him clearly aren’t representative of the general public.

People are still stuck in the 2020 era of cancellation and it makes them look foolish. Let them crash out in their corner of the internet and ignore them.

Made an account so I could share the experience from Tuesday night. There was a pre-show announcement that simply said "our restrooms are out of order, please make your way to Shubert Alley" lol felt like they were directing people to pop a squat out in the alley or use some kind of litter box, but apparently ushers then directed folks where to go. At intermission, they gave a clearer announcement that "our restrooms are out of order, please proceed next door to the Majestic." pretty funny how Broadway considers itself premium yet delivers the customer experience equivalent of NJ Transit.

So apparently I hear Rudin’s producing an adaptation of Billy Bud directed by Ivo Van Hove that’s what’s replacing it

I just saw the same story from Sweaty Oracle. Not sure how reliable that is?

I know we discussed this years ago but MJ literally broke its own supposed logic for not including the allegations by setting it in 1993 before they went public, but then inserting a song from 1995, which is used in the plot to attack the press and defend MJ against character attacks. Come. On.

No one gets to tell other people what they can or cannot support. We make up our own minds. (And for me, MJ is the more egregious of anything on Bway rn)

Its a free country and I would speak out loudly for the right of people to go celebrate Michael Jackson every night to the tune of millions and millions of dollars. But its repugnant- and the people angry about Scott Rudin seem oddly silent about this way more egregious example of moral confusion.

As for discussing it years ago, I believe we TRIED to talk about it but any and all criticism of MJ was swiftly censored by the Board masters. Im treading lightly here.
