If I lived or worked in the immediate vicinity it might well bother me (though I'm probably the wrong one to ask about that). As someone passing through an area that I don't expect to be calm and quiet, yes, it's totally fine with me.

"Perhaps- perhaps- he’s just a normal 80 year old man with all the regular cognitive decline that often goes along with it."

He should be playing with his grandchildren not being the leader of the free world, so should Trump. At least McConnell will step down as Senate minority leader at the end of the year, he really should just resign now. How sad is it for this country that no matter who wins we will have somebody leading this country over 80 during their elected term.

"I’m always baffled by the members here who go months or years without posting and almost never have contributed to any discussion of theatre or Broadway, but come out of the woodwork when there’s a political topic. And, coincidentally, they’re always the conservatives. "

First, this thread is on the "Broadway" message board and not the "Off Topic" board. Second, while this topic is political to a degree it is also a discussion of the economics of Broadway. Finally, there are quite a few posters (exp. "Jay Lerner-Z" & "Highland Guy") on BWW who mainly post about social and political threads and they are not conservative

I'm fine with it. You on the other hand. Not so much.

No, they’re not.

“It’s the Trump cultist with the MAGA stuff that are bizarre”

No, they all are because they value a fake billionaire/failed reality tv game show host/convicted felon/rapist over the lives and safety of people around them

“my mom likes Trump”

Maybe time to call A Place For Mom.

“so does several of my gay friends”

Now you know damn well that’s a lie.

Oh, trust me it wouldn’t take a million years for me to figure out you liked him.

And you people support a President who can’t complete a sentence or find an exit off the stage. Keep denying NYC is just fine.. and watch those ticket sales fall.

Sure thing, hun. Why don’t you go listen to your orange cult leader blather on about sharks and batteries again.

I was looking at past posts by some of these folks and one of them only makes comments if it is in some form political. Not one post really discussing theatre at all. Just baffles the mind why they are even here.

Because they incorrectly think they are very clever and because they are trying to “own the libs”. It isn’t working at all.

I don’t care about the children.  I care about me and the children running into me on the street and the parents sitting down on there sidewalk.  Not to mention all the trash everywhere.    It’s even weirder by the Roosevelt hotel.  It’s less chaotic but weirder because it’s right in the middle of people going to work in the corporate buildings.  But that one is reportedly closing by years end.  I guess the row will still be running into 2025 apparently.

I mean…yeah?

Do you live somewhere that adults don’t drink beer around children?

Is salsa music somehow…wrong to play?

At least in NYC there tend to be fewer guns around when people have a drink and/or sit in a lawn chair…

It is INSANE that we're complaining about the smell of weed and hearing salsa music. Like there are a thousand other smells that are actually gross in this city and you want to focus on weed? Something that is fully 100% legal in the state to be enjoying and actually doesn't smell bad, you just hold racist/classist views about it.

Yes.

To sum up: the reason you’re getting a big old collective shrug in response to your very strong feelings is that New Yorkers generally recognize and value that different cultures celebrate and congregate in different ways. It’s what makes this city what it is.

Have you ever been to Marcus Garvey Park on the 4th of July? Have you ever tried to ride a bike from the 125th St Fairway (RIP) to the GWB/Little Red Lighthouse on a summer Saturday around 5 pm? (Note: these are rhetorical questions; I already know your answers). I mean, for Pete’s sake: have you seen “In the Heights”?!

Now, I personally don’t like seeing people openly shooting up, I don’t like robbery, I don’t like violence. There is literally nowhere in NYC that you can wander around without being on the lookout for those things; it’s the best form of prevention.

But…lawn chairs? Children (gasp) RUNNING? Girl, please.

Finally, to equate “black and brown people gathering and socializing”, even in large groups, even loudly, with “danger” is blatantly racist, and sensible New Yorkers (as well as reasonable people everywhere) reject that paradigm exactly as we should. It causes bad outcomes. It causes people to call the cops for no real reason, which causes other people to get shot for no reason.

Remember, the powerful always win when the average people fear, and fight with, each other. That’s why these maniacs on TV keep doubling down on the effort to make it so. They want an army of Amy Coopers and the like. They want us suspecting and targeting each other. The ruling class WANTS you to think that loud salsa music makes you unsafe. It does not.

Be better than that.

Are you aware that we are talking about the SIDEWALK here.  New Yorkers aren’t allowed the ride bicycles there, and yet we’ve got people having a party right in the middle of the sidewalk. We’re not talking about some park.  People are walking through just trying to get to wherever theyre going, and they have to deal with all the trash thrown on the block, and all the rest of it.  there’s also been more murders in the Brooklyn tent I understand.

It does seem your very questionable post you made the other night was taken down, I thought it was in very poor taste but you do you.

You would spend 1/10th of the time just crossing the street if you feel unsafe walking through people “hanging out” on “the SIDEWALK” than you have spent trying to persuade this thread that your outrage is justified.

What exactly is “the Brooklyn tent”?

I wonder if BroadwayFlash has ever heard of the novel advice of mind your own business and keep walking. Part of this city's acquired skills is weaving through a busy sidewalk and you're crying about it. Have you ever tried to catch a train in rush hour and been greeted with a back log of people? It's a busy place. That is what New York is. You're honestly just complaining about people existing. Get over it.

wow

ppl need to get a grip on here

what does salsa music have to do with anything

trump is a national nightmare and a worldwide embarrassment

current republican policies are bad for everyone except billionaires

but those of us who lean left also need to keep our houses in order

there is an issue at the southern border that has been ignored for too long

denying this fact is not helping anyone and even the biden administration realizes this now

new york city is less safe today than it was ten years ago and even less safe compared to twenty years ago

the post-covid broadway recovery curve has been very slow due to a combination of factors

so dont oversimplify the argument just to match your political stripes

like saying salsa music = there goes the neighborhood

congratulations on having a conversation with yourself where you answered your own questions

i noticed you pounced on this one point out of several i made

before you get your panties in a wad

try doing some research yourself first

sticking your fingers in your ears because you dont like hearing a truth isnt constructive

and i take no joy in reporting it

while the situation has improved it is nowhere yet near the glory days from a couple of decades ago

okay
