Oh I didn't realize the audience has no say how a piece is interpreted. And of course they wouldn't manipulate and politicize AAPI's in order to win Tony's.

Who is "most people were surprised"? Were you following this show from the beginning? It's been constantly mentioned in press from the beginning about him and Helen both being AAPI.

To be fair to Boris (I know, I know...), while I don't see his posts, I do see the number of likes on some of these other ridiculous posts, so I'm sure there are plenty of people agreeing with him. (Just like there are people who agree with what Trump's doing...). Franklin's screed about how Feldman just wants to work (...and Asian actors don't?) and he shouldn't be deprived of income (but it's fine for the Asian actor who could be playing the role not to have the income?) and he and his girlfriend just want to perform together (...okay...) is at 10 likes and counting. Boris certainly isn't the only one who feels that white men (the true victims of the world) are once again being victimized by the "woke mob" and uppity Asians. Most are just keeping their mouth shuts (that "silent majority" they're always on about)."

Sweetie, you just joined today and you have already posted at least 2 dozen times about this issue -- no one forced you to do that. Also VERY WEIRD that you "know plenty about the show and cast" and didn't know Darren was Asian. One of the first things that pop up whenever you look him up.



Even during Glee this was known so apparently your research or comprehension is lacking.

I’ve known Darren personally for 13 years and have always know he was Asian. I never said I didn’t know he was Asian, but I did read a large number of comments when he won the Tony that people were surprised that he’s straight and part Asian. Page back to my original posts on this thread if you must.

I’m afraid I won’t elaborate as it would make me identifiable and anonymity is valued by everyone here.

And Matt, I only quote when really necessary. I don’t like to make people scroll through multiple paragraphs.

God, so sad to see the Tony winner for best musical, the show that defied terrible initial sales, terrible odds, that was a celebration of Asian talent as part of a wider season with an unusually high number of great shows with asian artists, decent into chaos like this. I wish we could have a time machine to simpler times. My biggest fear of Andrew's casting is that it will now give a free pass to any future production of the show not to try very hard to cast Asian actors....that probably bothers me more than a short term casting decision on Broadway that could (and I expect will be) easily reversed with the following replacements.

exactly. I'd respect them more if they said we're doing this solely for money reasons of future productions and not gaslighting.

Yes I have spoken to Asian people close to me and shared my views, along with examples of how there has historically been more representation than some people are claiming. Again, my earlier posts contain many of the points that I’ve also shared in person (not with Pacific Islanders as I don’t know any in NYC and those that I know elsewhere aren’t abreast of the situation).

My sentiments are (so far) received with consideration and no obvious backlash, and sometimes an agreement to disagree and sometimes an acknowledgment of my points as “good points”. People are more restrained in person than online, of course.

An Asian actress in my building, who knows I keep up with theatre news, volunteered that she and some of her friends (she didn’t say Asian friends but I can only assume) were embarrassed by the outcry that people are making.
