Posted: 8/11/05 at 12:07ami don't know if any one has mentioned it (I'm sure someone has, but i haven't really read that much of the thread). From jekyll&Hyde in Murder, Murder the "to kill outside st. paul's requires a lot of balls" is just so , well words don't really work in this case.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

Posted: 8/11/05 at 12:37amin nine, during only with you guido sings the clumsiest lyric in an otherwise good song "send me your love/ that will mend me with love" it makes me crazy since whenever i sing that part i always try to fix it in my head and it makes it even clumsier

Anybody wanna take a stab at either of these two? The latter one would make more sense if they were going with girls, but it's already established at this point that they'd be going alone. Unless they're all gay, but I guess I missed that subtle plot nuance.

Posted: 8/11/05 at 12:58amOne of the more obscure Sondheim musicals(at least where I live). Anyway I guess the first one has to do with talking to the girls on the phone and staying at home. I really don't know. That was one of the things that just confused me. Good musical just weird things in there.

Just thought of a really good one. Surprised Mattress got mentioned and this little bit didn't, from "In A Little While":
'In a little while, just a little while
You and I will be 1, 2, 3, 4..."
No clue what it meant. Did a production, asked everyone involved, they were like "just go with it."

Don't get me wrong i loved this song from Wicked but to use the word 'cross' three times in one sentence pisses me off.

There are probably many lyrics that bug me, but I can't really think of them now. I'm not crazy about the very many times Mimi says "goodbye love" in, obviously, Goodbye Love. I don't know, I just find myself fast forwarding a little bit during that song. Also, the song Thank Goodness isn't my favorite, but I really have nothing against that line, "there are bridges you crossed you didn't know you've crossed until you've crossed". I think it's rather moving, and has a lot of meaning. But heck, if I think Goodbye Love is too repeatitive (sp?), then I can see why some people think Thank Goodness is.

mmmm Someone mentioned Wild Party... A great show, but the number "A Dozen women" by Black that is not on the soundtrack but is painfully in the show the entire song is P for Poor.
Black: " Gimme a mmmm mmmmm"
Queenie: "MMM MMM"
Black: "thats how you say it.."
I could go on, but clearly there is a reason that it is not on the CD.
Also in Wicked:
Elphaba: "and if thats love, it comes at much to high a cost...
Id sooner buy defying gravity"
Bleh, Steven is genius but has some problems sometimes with the lyrics

"Ragtime" is a brilliant show, but several pedestrian lyrics:
"Mama she was frightened, crazy from the fright." Redundant phrase. I know she's an ignorant girl, but surely there was a better rhyme for "light."
"Masturbates for a vaudeville tart/What a waste of a fiery heart." Ugh.

OMg the masturbates to a vaudville tart seems so out of place in that show. It is such a crass lyric in an otherwise eloquent show

Cinderella's full of them. I already mentioned the "Do I love you because you're beautiful? Or are you beautiful because I love you" on another thread.
But the one that always makes me laugh is "The Prince is Having a Ball." Especially:
I wish I hadn't married Sam
Pull in your little diaphragm.
I always thought it would be funnier if a woman came out with a baby and said, "I wish I'd worn a diaphragm."

is my Fav
there was a commercial on TV Late nite where a guy was geabbing his constructing hat that was glued to the ceiling
he wasn't a midget but he was short

I don't understand why Schwartz couldn't have made the line "Nessa, uh, Nessa, I've got something to confess - the reason why..." 'The' rhymes, and it makes more sense. Anyway.
Lots of the lyrics in Amour bug me.

Ugh. That just makes me cringe. Will Finn has some issues with lyrics; he likes to use big words the wrong way. I'm sure I'll think of more examples as the day goes on.
It also bothers me that they all sing "we love spelling" and then a few of them sing "I like spelling, too." We know. You just told us. Wait, what? You like spelling AND spelling?! No way!

Speaking of JCS, how about:

Oh really? You seemed to say that last sentence just fine. I think in the recent revivals, they changed it to "See his tongue, he can hardly talk."
And I have no idea what the jaded, faded mandarin thing means.
