& Juliet Closing in January

Not surprised.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

With Studio 54 set to undergo renovations sometime after Rocky Horror ends its run, I wonder if Roundabout will start using the Sondheim for their own productions again in the meantime.

20 previews and 1,723 regular performances.

At the time of closure, it will be one of the top 50 longest-running shows in Broadway history.

I’m so sad. This was my ultimate guilty pleasure show.

Would love to see a Sondheim show go into the Sondheim Theatre, now.

My money is on THE HEART going to the Sondheim. (Even though it would be a commercial transfer)

My money's on a play, but we'll see.

Sending my thoughts to everyone at the Sondheim today, but especially one man in particular. His magic touch on the pop world may have faded a bit in recent years, but he is greatness personified and this musical simply wouldn't exist without him.

There will never be another Karl Martin Sandberg. Nobody deserves this run more than him.

Bought a ticket for closing night because why not? It had a magnificent run,

I know DAMN YANKEES is looking for a theatre, so maybe it could go here. They haven’t announced the run but it’s already been cast with most of the people transferring.

This will be produced in every regional and community theater in the next five years.

The rights to Martin's catalog could be super expensive and a potential turnoff for some houses.

Re: & Juliet Closing in January

MTI is handling licensing for this show. I’m sure they anticipate this being a hot title once it becomes available and have worked things out for it to be reasonably priced. Licensing popular songs certainly hasn’t stopped MAMMA MIA or ROCK OF AGES from being produced everywhere. Why would & JULIET be any different?

Re: & Juliet Closing in January

Song licensing is usually only a problem when there are a lot of different writers involved and one is being tricky, or if a producer has not locked up worldwide rights. And/or if a show is disastrously bad and there’s infighting among the creative team.

None of the above is the case here. The song catalogue would have been part of the MTI acquisition, and MM being a lead producer of the show certainly helps.

It will do gangbusters in licensing.

Re: & Juliet Closing in January

A San Francisco regional theater is doing Once Upon a One More Time, the Britney Spears musical, this fall - so any rights issues aren’t a problem for that show. I assume the same will be true for & Juliet, a much more successful musical. It should do very well in licensing.

I saw the third preview of this, and it was so much fun. Congratulations to everyone involved, what a great run!

A play has this theater already for a limited run.

As long as it’s not a Scott Rudin produced play, I’m fine with that

Re: & Juliet Closing in January

Someone on a thread awhile ago suggested it had the Belasco for the spring - but maybe this is where the transfer of the Ivo van Hove All My Sons with Cranston and Jean-Baptiste?

And add my cheers to the show for a tremendously successful run! It'll absolutely have a wonderful future regionally.

Re: & Juliet Closing in January

I feel like The Heart is definitely going in there in the Spring and they feel confident it will be successful.
