I love R&H so much, but the book and score to this show leave me cold. I enjoyed the post about it launching the career of Shirley MacLaine, however. (I would have guessed that Shirley was the gal on the bottom left, not top right, in the attached photo.)

I'd like to go back to 1948 and 49 to see the original productions of Kiss Me, Kate, A Streetcar Named Desire, South Pacific and Death of a Salesman. I wonder if people knew how good they had it then. (Streetcar is the only one of those shows that I haven't seen a worthy revival of; at least it got the best movie adaptation.)

And to be very basic, I'd go back to the night Liza was announced as a temporary replacement in CHICAGO.

I'm a huge lover of HELLO, DOLLY so I'd love to see Carol Channing during her height in the show.

Another vote for Follies. Everything I've heard, seen, and read about the production makes it sound extraordinary.



And I have to say--one of the surprisingly lovely things about aging is getting to look through a thread like this and remember how lucky I am to have seen some of these shows! The OBC of Ragtime and Elaine Paige in Sunset Boulevard, I was lucky enough to be there for. I may be getting old, but I got to see Audra's Sarah! :)

Would love to experience the OG Sweeney Todd cast and production at the then-Uris. I guess the tour recording is fairly close, but the full live experience would be even better.



On the topic of getting older -- I always start to feel elderly when something I saw the original cast of gets revived. Miss Saigon was the first time with Falsettos close behind, but it's beginning to happen with more frequency now with Sunset Blvd. and Ragtime -- and Other Desert Cities coming up. (Admittedly, ODC is fairly recent, but still.) I guess this happens to everyone who's lucky enough to have some longevity in theatergoing.
