How did The Lost Boys lose to Schmigadoon??

The Lost Boys is far from perfect but my goodness it’s a masterpiece compared to Schmigadoon! Who on earth are these Tony voters?? Do they have eyes and ears?? They drop the ball every single year, but this one was a doozy.

How did anything lose to Schmigadoon??? Yes, it was a weak year, but that show is so subpar. Should’ve been Two Strangers. At least that was original.

This has been discussed ad nauseum in multiple threads. It does not warrant its own thread phillypinto/flash/etc

Get over yourself

So, what happened was, 850 people cast their votes for Best Musical at the Tony Awards. And, of those 850, more voted for Schmigadoon than The Lost Boys. Therefore, Schmigadoon was awarded the Tony for Best Musical over The Lost Boys. Hope that clears things up for you.

''Schmigadoon!'' also won Best Musical over ''The Lost Boys'' at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. And ''Schmigadoon!'' won Best Musical at the Drama Desk Awards, where ''The Lost Boys'' wasn't even nominated in that category.

Thanks for the reminder to block you.

How did it win Best Original Score is the thing I don't understand considering it...wasn't a score written for the stage
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

Let me be frank...Sh*ttydoon sucked.

But it's the most navel-gazing ("It's about musicals! We're in the theater industry! We should vote for that!") so it ultimately didn't matter that it's soulless and creatively bankrupt and its score is nothing but a bunch of Temu versions of classic musical theater songs with no real wit or cleverness. It's like in comedy where something can get a laugh not because it's funny or an actual joke, but because the audience recognizes the reference. That's what Sh*ttydoon offers: the ability for an in-the-know audience to recognize the song being referenced and imitated (not really parodied, since that would require actual humor and cleverness). And much like the cheapness of recognition laughs, the industry recognized enough there to throw all the awards at the thing imitating something they love in a weak year.

really it should have just all gone to TWO STRANGERS but people found it "too small" and not written by Americans. IT was the best new musical of the season.

How many times can you re-write this same post. You hated it. We get it. Jeez, give it a rest.

This is the first time I've made this post. I referred to Sh*ttydoon in one other thread (a weekly grosses one, I believe), but otherwise never posted a review or any comments about it. My comment history is open in case you'd like to point out otherwise.

You may have mistaken me for someone else, or are hallucinating.
