Wouldn't that be cool? I man, he's in the movie, and he kinda sings. And he was in "Laura Croft" and knows Angelina Jolie. I think this would help Phantom return it's investment in no time!

Or maybe Antonio? I heard that he's suppose to do it.

According to an interview he saidd that he was never operatically trained, and does not sing that kind of music. Great for a movie, where all they have to do is lay the tracks down and he lip sync to it. But, being that it is a vocally demanding role, I don't think he has the ability to perform that night after night. Besides, hopefully with the movie opening, the show will close soon (as I type with my fingers crossed)

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

ummm... movies require multiple takes and they don't actually sing while shooting. Perhaps Gerard might be a bit out of his league doing it live, eight times a week.

Justice... if that is your pic. You are cute but I don't see Phantom on Broadway closing anytime soon. I mean look what Chicago did for Chicago. Okay that sounds weird but you know what i mean.

Phantom of the Opera is not going anywhere anytime soon. It is still hugely popular with tourists, and with the movie coming out.....it is going to get a HUGE boost just like Chicago did. With the actual question that was stated, even though I like him on the soundtrack of the movie (I haven't seen it yet) I would rather him not be on Broadway. Two different ballparks. I think Anthony Warlow needs to get his butt to America and show America how the Phantom should be played. re: Gerard to Take Over Phantom on Broadway

We want him first!!!! I don't think Anthony's ever performed in England. POTO at Her Majesty's would be an excellent place for him to start!

And you better believe I will go to great extremes to get money to fly to England to see him, too.

Stow away in the luggage hold of a plane to Heathrow! Or become a stewardess. Or a foreign student studying in England.

Or I can beat a stewardess down, take her uniform, get a wig and pose as the stewardess and then hide in the bathroom the whole flight.

"Maybe it is me... but I enjoy Gerard's voice."

Nope it's not just you, Jon. I like Gerard Butler's voice too. HOWEVER, as much as I do enjoy listening to him, and think he has a good voice, I'm not naive enough to believe he could do this role on stage. He would need more training before he's ready for that kind of singing.

I second that. It's not you. I also like Gerard's voice.

Also, the fact that the movie is coming out is a sign that the show will NOT close anytime soon.

*curls up in a ball* I thought you just said that he WAS going to take over...and I nearly had a heart attack.

Being a Phantom phreak/purist/phan, I can't stand his voice. I really can't - I know other people like it, but..no. The Phantom's supposed to have a beautiful, clear, operatic voice, not a grungy, rock-and-roll type sound. The voice (and, in essence, his genius - the architecture, the composing, everything) is supposed to compensate for his outward deficiencies, but...well, let's just say Shumacher, in my opinion, has changed things around a bit.

*gets off of soap box and runs away before she's killed by rabid Gerard fans*

gerard's is not horrible & does have some of the creepyness the phantom's voice needs but his voice is not strong and probably would be worse live.

After all these years, surely it's already returned it's investment?

I believe that the previous poster was attempting to insinuate that the movie's ****tiness is going to help the show close early.
